Inspired by Nature

Some of you may already be aware of my background in design and textiles, but not of my interest in Japanese Street Wear. I have long admired how these wonderful young people can adapt any period of European clothing wherever and whenever they choose to create a style of their very own. I love their ability to really enjoy the clothes they wear, regardless of what anyone else may think.

They have inspired me to produce a range of BJD doll clothes based on two of my current favourites . . . Natural and Mori.

Natural Kei is a much older style than Mori, dating back to the 70's. It has almost a pastoral, "Home on the Prairie" look to it, that is very close to nature. It tends to be slightly fitted with simple pinafores, aprons or long coats over long floral dresses. Colour and small floral prints are more noticeable and the multi layering and frayed edges which appear in Mori, are less apparent in Natural Kei.

Mori Kei takes inspiration from the forest, colours are very earthy and natural and the clothing is, for the most part, very loose almost A line in design. Mori girls like to dress in many layers using soft creams, shades of browns, very soft dusty blues, pastel pinks or pale moss like greens. Lace and boots play a large part in the overall look.

More recently, I have been looking at the mergence between Natural Kei and Mori Kei. A lot depends on your own perspective, there are some combinations that one person would call Natural, whereas another would refer to it as Mori. I like to think of my designs being an experimental combination of the two and have opened a new Etsy store to readily accommodate them . . .

As each design in my head, becomes a finished garment, they will be posted.
Here's a little preview of what's to come.

  1. Hi Sandi!

I'm very interested in Japanese Street Wear as well, it amazes me how they can create original outfits. As mostly all my BJDs are Japanese is fun to dress them wearing these fashion styles I like for them. I mainly go for Visual Punk, Punk Lolita, Oujisama + Dandy and Gothic fashion. In fact, even I like to wear some accessories and clothes of Japanese and Classic Gothic fashion (I've been a Goth for +10 years and still love it).

Mori Kei is being very popular in the BJD scene here in Spain. It's a beautiful fashion style for cute girls. Good luck with your new Etsy shop! ☺

    Hugs.

    1. HI Lily!

I had a pretty good impression you were. :) I quite like Goth styles myself, and had a couple of Blythe that were dressed in Goth clothes. :) I met a lovely girl at a doll show, who had the most beautiful Goth Lolita costume and it suited her so well.

I just wish I was young enough to wear those clothes successfully, but I'm afraid I would just look like mutton dressed as lamb. LOL! So I just have to live my life through my dolly dressmaking. :)

    2. Haha, isn't a secret I like this stuff. Yes, Goths are nice too, isn't true that we only think about death, blood and other awful stuff. Well, Gothic Lolita and Gothic fashion aren't the same, though I know that some Gothic Lolita knows what being Goth is and some mix both styles pretty well :)

I understand. When I was younger I used to wear Goth costumes every weekend. Now I can't find the moment for it, only if I go to a concert or so, lol. Do you know about the Whitby Goth Week? I'd really love to attend there once in my life, Goths of all ages are dressed with beautiful Goth outfits and the enviroment seems nice :)

      Hugs ^^

    3. Hi Lily,
Never heard of the Whitby Goth Week, is it held in Whitby UK? Goth is probably not a style for me to wear, but I really enjoy seeing the young ones and I love Gothic architecture too. Hey you'll have to post a pic of yourself in Goth clothes when you get a chance. :)

  2. I look forward to see your fashions, the fabrics shown are so right for this style. Japanese young people always look so original whatever style they wear, I love their originality. xx

    1. Thanks Night Owl, I have plenty of ideas and hope that I can do the styles justice (at least enough for people to buy them).

    1. Thanks Alejandra. I'm not to sure whether the cream fabric is a little too light (too close to white) so I am thinking of using a tea bath to deepen the colour. I will finish making the garment first and then decide.
