The Curse of Indecision

I am so envious of those who can stay completely focussed on one thing, or repeatedly make/create one item over and over again, but as hard as I try, I never can. I was the same as a child in school. All my reports read ~ "would achieve much better results if she wasn't so easily distracted".

Sometimes, it can really be frustrating to be constantly having new ideas and wanting to do all of them at the same time. Like now, I have a new idea for a dress, another for a knitted top, and I don't know which to begin first. Then of course there are all the UFO's that need to be completed.

Today,  I really feel like a dog chasing it's tail, spinning round and round, yet going absolutely nowhere!

I'm in the mood to write, but know in my heart I should be doing other things. Maybe I am just procrastinating? Oh well, I know I won't get anything done if I sit here at the computer, so it's off to have some lunch now and perhaps I'll be more focussed after I feed my face! (Though I doubt it!!)

Hope you are all having a better day than I. :)

  1. Hi Sandi!
I understand you so well. I use to get distracted easily and procrastinate a lot, so you're not alone, lol. Years ago I used to start one illustration and didn't finish it when I drew another and another one until one day I said to myself that wasn't good to have 10 illustrations half-drawn and none finished. Now I write in a notebook what I want to draw or photograph to not forget and do them when I have finished the previous. It's hard, but if you keep in mind not starting too many new things until you finish the stuff you're doing, you can get it. Cheer up!

    1. Hi Lily,
I was just frustrated, not down and out. The notebook thing has been tried and unfortunately has failed miserably. I am afraid it's a bit like my list of this year objectives . . . everything just flies out the window when a new idea creeps in to my head. However, you will be pleased to hear I am more focused today! YAY!!

  2. Hello Sandy,
I usually manage to stay focused, mainly because I am a person who obsesses on something once I get interested, so I can imagine how frustrating it must be to go back and forth between ideas...However, I think that is when you get a lot of inspiration and it helps you think outside the box. Not sticking to one subject for too long leaves, I think, more room for inspiration. Don't fight it, just hang on an enjoy the ride.
    Big hug,

    1. Oh thank you Giac. I did follow your advice. I followed that afternoon's impulse through to the end and finished a lovely two piece Goth set that I wished to give to a friend as a little "Thank You"

  3. You're looking at it all wrong! You are doing the same thing over and over and staying committed to it! You're sewing and knitting! XD Nothing wrong in changing up WHAT you're sewing and knitting though!

    1. Hi Heather,
It would be nice if it was just the sewing and knitting, but it's not, there are many things going on behind the scenes here, but I am getting a handle on it at last. :)

  5. You know, I could have written this. It sounds exactly like me. I have a million ideas running a-muck in my head and I want to do them all right now but I know that's not possible so I get overwhelmed and never end up starting them! Doesn't help that I am spreading myself over several hobbies!

Maybe try to focus on what you really want to do. Write down a list of everything you want to do and number them in order of "Want to the most". I find sometimes that helps me. A list and forcing myself to systematically go through each one in order of priority.

    1. Hi Alasse,
Thanks for your support. As I mentioned to Lily, the list thing just doesn't do it for me. However, I am back on track at last, but for how long it's anyone's guess. LOL! Probably until the next lot of ideas bombard me. :)

  6. Oh one of those days! Sorry to hear you're having a day like that. Personally I always found it highly frustrating that the ideas were comming so fast I had no chance of using more than a small procentage of them. I hope you'll feel better soon. Hugs!

    1. Thanks Dustbunnie, all back to square one today. I know I am not alone with this problem, but sometimes it does one good to vent. Sort of clears the cobwebs away. :)

  7. I'm the same :-D. All those ideas spinning around in my head, it's impossible to do everything at once unfortunately! I saw you're feeling better now, that's great :-)! Bih hugs xx

  8. I Really am with you on this. I think its just one of the many facets of how creativity works in us. I try to remember to consider "procrastination" Percolation - because thats often what it actually is - things just need time to Percolate a bit and sort out. Its also ironically a facet of perfectionism, it can be hard to get started but mostly that too is just having to remember to Just put one foot in front of the other, one step at a time (simple things seem incredibly difficult for me to remember LOL!) Also about those that recreate the same thing every time, I don't think thats anything to be envied. The marvel is being able to create something anew in each thing - and from reading your other post already - thats exactly what you did! LuV, TiGGy :)

    1. Thank you Tiggy. I do like you concept of "percolate", allowing thoughts to filter through and yes, I do tend to do that most times (though I call it mulling, hee hee), but sometimes just like the percolator, those thoughts get clogged up! Fortunately things have been diluted and things are flowing again nicely, thanks to everyone's encouragement.
