When One Is Not Enough

For quite some time, I have been wanting to organise my wool stash, but have been in a quandary as to whether I should purchase a storage unit or just simple containers of some sort. It was important to me to be able to see the colours easily and for the wool to be protected from dust and hungry moths, so after some deliberation, I settled on containers. Finding a suitable size was the next challenge.

Then today while hubby and I were doing the grocery shopping, the answer came right out of the blue! Just as we turned the corner from the pet food aisle, right there before our li'l ol' eyes, was a shelf full of Systema containers in different sizes, all on half price special. I found three in a size that was perfect, but needed more . . . we looked around the store to see if there were any, but alas, it appeared the large sizes had sold very quickly.

That was until we hit the checkout . . . I could hardly believe my luck, sitting on top of the cash register was another Systema box just in the right size . . . needless to say I grabbed it. :)

I couldn't wait to sort my wool out into colours and most of my current stash fitted in the boxes nicely, except for my browns, yellows, creams and whites. So before I can complete the task I set out to do, I need to find at the very least, one more box.

    1. Thanks Irene, it was a case of being in the right place and the right time . . . I saved heaps! I really like that I can now see at a glance what stock I have on hand.

  2. They're a great find for your wool. I struggle to find just the right storage boxes and because we go back and forth between our two homes I tend to keep a lot of stuff in bags which squish down in the boot of the car, but I do prefer boxes like these as they are so much neater and easier to see what's inside! Every time I need something from a bag I have to tip the whole lot out because invariably what I need will be right at the bottom!

    1. Oh yes they were. I had mine in doll boxes before and it drove me crazy not being able to easily see what I had. Prior to that I had my wool in a big plastic crate with a lid, but like you the one I would need would be at the bottom. So I do understand how frustrating it would be having everything in bags. Going back and forth between to homes wouldn't make things any easier to keep things in order, that's why I only keep my stuff in our town home now . . . I'm disorganised enough as it is. LOL!

    1. Thanks, I'm sure I will eventually. I love these particular range of boxes and have them in many different sizes, but they aren't cheap as they are made in New Zealand. There are similar cheap ones made in China but they aren't as nice.

  4. That's a really neat storage system you have going there. Mine are dumped into the one massive big box I call my yarn box. I used to buy a lot of yarn although I didn't really use a lot of it so have no idea why I kept buying them!

    1. Thanks Alasse. As I mentioned to Sharon, the big box just didn't work for me. I did end up sorting through all my wool and sold off what I didn't use anymore on eBay.

  5. Well, talk about luck! Perfect match between wool and box! :) I usually end up at IKEA searching for things - boxes in different sizes. Too small or too big is usually the ending of those trips. And I arrive home with all other kind of things...
    Happy new week! Hugs!

    1. Hi Nina,
Yes, luck had a great deal to do with it, I was so happy to find them at half price. I like Ikea, but it has a terrible habit of making you spend on things you didn't intend to.

    1. Hi Crystal,
Me too! We all appear to need plenty of storage with this hobby, probably because it encompasses so many other crafts. :)
