I was thinking about this when I decided to list some dolls on eBay the other day. I wasn't sure whether I could use the word to describe their limb movement being only five way jointed. So I Googled and this is what I found.
"On Gotz Doll Wiki, ARTICULATION refers to whether or not a doll can move one or more of its body parts independently of its body and/or hold that body part in a fixed pose."
So it appears as long as a doll can move its arm, leg or head and hold a pose with them, it's okay to say it's articulated. That made me feel a lot better about using the word.
Speaking of which, I ordered this little lady. She's very pretty but I already have this "Nora" face on a couple of Paola Reina dolls and I really only wanted her nine way jointed body.
She is going to have her head switched with another of my Paola Reina dolls. Thereby providing me with three different faces. As you see below I already have this "Nora" face on the multi jointed body.
Beautiful dolls. I used to have two Paola Reina, but because of the suffocating smell I had to sell them. Xanadu hugs.
ReplyDeleteIt's funny how the smell of Vanilla effects some people Magdalena, I like the smell, it reminds me of baby powder. LOL!
DeleteWell That's me totally confused! Love the first dolls face but is she staying, switching heads and going? is her head staying on another's body ? I do confuse easily lol. I have to say I have near thought of switching a favourite dolls head onto another 'better' body.. something I'll have to consider should the need arrive :)

The first girl's head is going on the 4th girl's body and vice versa. So the 2nd, 3rd and 4th girl with the first girl's body are staying. That way I'll have three pretty girls with different faces and hair colours. I hope that's cleared up the mud for you Dee. LOL!

I think BJD owners might expect more from "articulated" dolls, but play line dolls with joints other than head, legs and arms are an exception, aren't they? Love the Reinas :)
ReplyDeleteYes, they are in the minority, but there are a few different play dolls with nine joints Mia. Gotz Happy Kidz, Ruby Red Fashion Friends, Ruby Red Siblings, Burjuan Eva, and Kathe Kruse Kruselings have 13 joints.

Beautiful dolls. I love their outfits. Parting with dolls is hard. I get attached to each of my dolls. I'm afraid to sell my dolls; I feel like I'll regret it. So there are old cheap dolls standing on my shelf that I can't part with. But there was a time when I collected my first dolls and gave them to an orphanage. I believe they bring joy to someone🙂

I think we do get attached to our dolls Inesa, but like our children there comes a time when they have to leave the nest and make their own way in the world. 😥 It's sad but it allows us to do more with the space they leave behind . . . like adding more dolls! 😂

All three of your dolls are really cute, and of course they are dressed beautifully. The little fox print is adorable and the green dress is lovely.
ReplyDeleteThanks Barb, I'm happy just to keep my PR dolls limited to three. I like the print too, and made their outfits by hand, so don't look too closely at the stitching . . . these were made before I got my new eyes!! 🤣 The green dress was made by Carol Pringle . . . it's beautifully made and all lined.

This post made me want to order a Paola Reina doll. Oh my. I do love the vanilla fragrance too. Had the box with some other dolls among my Paola Reina doll, and now even those have a mild vanilla fragrance. Lol. These dolls and similar goes as 5 jointed dolls, over here. Movement in the legs (hips), arms (shoulder) and head (neck). When I started to collect dolls, I really wanted to have more movement than just 5 joints, but now these dolls have grown on me. Adorable ones.

If you do Niina, check out the ones with extra articulation, they pose like BJD's and are every bit worth the extra expense.
