Ruffled Feathers

Sometimes, I wonder what some people in the doll world are thinking when they tell blatent lies? Do they think we are stupid and will actually continue to believe them? Do they think in these days, where the internet records everything, that they won't get caught out? Or is it that they just don't give a damn about anyone but themselves?

To be completely honest, I have had enough of it! Receiving repeated lies and rediculous explanations about delays in shipping dates, has put me right off buying dolls from two Korean companies (even though they have the most beautiful sculpts). They seem to have this attitude that once they get your money they can do and say whatever they like, because they know you can do absolutely nothing, but wait until they are ready to ship.

I don't think it's anyway to conduct a business, especially if they expect to receive further orders. They must remember this is a highly competitive field and there are many artists with the capability of producing beautiful dolls, who also care enough about their customers, to provide accurate shipping times up front. If these deceitful businesses continue to let people down time after time, they will soon find they no longer have a business.

  1. I wish I knew what was going on in the minds of people who take payment and don't deliver, or deliver after extreme delays and frequent excuses. Yes, sometimes things happen that are out of the control of the sellers. So often however, it's the result of poor business operation and a lack of personal ethics. Not infrequently, it can even be intentional larceny but whatever the reason, the end result is the same.

    1. Yes GT, and unfortunately we don't know what they are like until we get caught ... unless of course we are lucky enough to be warned ahead of time. I guess this is where this media can be handy. :)

  2. I am really sorry that you are having to deal with this. It's not the type of thing you want to be doing and it always causes a lot of stress. I do know how you feel though. Luckily I have only had issues with one Korean company that did a similar thing to me as you are experiencing now. It's disheartening and does turn you off wanting to buy dolls from them. I have never purchased a single doll from that particular company since all the problems I had with them which is a shame as they do produce some lovely dolls but I just don't want to deal with all that hassle again. It's stressful enough buying the dolls and then waiting for them to be produced and shipped. I'm just glad paypal have increased their time period now from their former 45 days. I think it's now 100 days or something like that.

    1. Hi Alasse,
Thank you for your empathy, it is very stressful, because after the long wait you get so excited about a new doll arrival, then you get depressed when your told there's another "problem". This last roller coaster ride has done nothing to help my blood pressure.
Unfortunately, the Paypal extension does nothing to aleviate the situation, as this is long past it.

  3. Agreed, Sandi. Did you see that April Story has now had a fire in their warehouse which is no doubt going to add even more delays? Of course if that's really the case then it's out of their control but it's very very disappointing as you have already been waiting so long for your order...I ordered my body in September so I don't even want to think about how long it's going to take, especially since they're saying the molds are ruined :/ Not sure what that means for those who are waiting on dolls they no longer have molds for!!

I just had another poor experience with Withdoll who completely forgot about my order for 2 months (just an outfit, they say on the website it will be shipped in 3-5 days!) and didn't even so much as say sorry when I poked them! Now I received it yesterday and parts are missing so I have to raise another fuss. The service from some companies is really poor, the do-not-buy list just keeps growing :(

    1. Oh no M, that's all I need. After many weeks of delays, they had told me my doll would definitely ship on the 11th, then when I didn't get my shipping notice I contacted them again, this was their repy ~

      "Hello, dear.
Unfortunately there was a delay in shipping so it was delayed to this Friday.
We are so sorry about that and I will send you the tracking as soon as I receive it.
Thank you and have a good day."

It didn't get shipped then either! Needless to say, I no longer believe a word they say, it's just been going on far too long.

Thanks for the heads up on Withdoll, I'm really sorry you have had problems too. Sort of makes you think twice about buying anything from anyone overseas. I have also had a few fibs told to me by a Polish girl on Etsy but at least that parcel is finally on it's way, six days after she'd told me she posted it!

  4. I hear of so many companies doing this, don't they understand that giving false dates is so much worse than just giving a realistic estimate (even if it's longer than expected)? I would even prefer they just say that they're not sure when they will ship than to lie about it multiple times :( I would be going crazy if I were you!!

I am extra vigilant in checking reviews and feedback of individual sellers after a terrible fiasco with an etsy seller who frequently drops off the face of the earth after payment and then acts like there's no problems, it really sent me mental dealing with her and I should have paid more heed to what others had said about her. Glad to hear that your parcel eventually got sent though. It's tough because most transactions are fine, I have dealt with some really lovely and careful people, but then you get the few who are truly awful and it just makes you want to give up!

P.S. this is petitemarine again, no idea what account I was using for my original comment!

    1. Yes, I'm almost bald! LOL!

I also check feedback where it's possible M, as it can be a good indicator, but it's still no guarantee. I agree there are more ethical people on Etsy than not and I have always received what I've ordered, but it is still annoying when the occasional shop owner says a parcel has shipped when it doesn't get sent till almost a week later.

  5. I'm so sorry you had to deal with this.

If the thing is with April Story, here is the link to the DoA news where they announced the fire at the warehouse: https://denofangels.com/threads/aprilstory-discontinue-of-current-types.693341/ In theory, they are not accepting any more orders than what the molds can produce.

Regarding Withdoll, I wanted to tell that I've never had any trouble with them (I have three dolls from them), and they always answered. They are, indeed, a little optimistic, and they also outsource translators (faceup artists, and seamstress) so sometimes they only answer the Q/A one or two times per week.

Hope you get everything sorted out.

    1. Thanks Musume.

Yes the problem is with April Story, but this was going on long before the fire.

I'm glad you haven't had any problem with Withdoll. I haven't had any dealings with them and I'm not sure I'll ever need to, but it's always good to hear about other experiences.
