In Need of Organisation Skills

I really like all of the planning and speculation that comes along with the start of a new year - 365 clean, white squares on the calendar expectantly waiting to be filled with exciting things! The start of a new year feels like a good time to try and put one's own little world right and I suppose that's why so many of us make new years resolutions. However, I didn't make any this year and it's just as well, as we are already to begin March and I still haven't organised myself properly.

I can't seem to find the right groove! This past week I had good intentions, but I've still not managed to finish all I had planned. I tend to change my direction midstream far too often and that might have bearing on the state of my work table . . .

. . . it's a jumble of patterns, fabric, lace and all sorts of odds and sods - in short it's one big mess (I am not one of the world's naturally tidy people). The trouble with working on a whim, is that I forget what I was doing last on a particular item and where I put the lace to finish it! I have some sorting out to do and then hopefully, I'll be on track to finish off some of these projects before the end of next week.

I am also suffering from those ghastly dolly spending withdrawal symptoms.

I would like to order Ah-ra (KID) from Iplehouse (on the right), as a younger sibling for Hanako (my Minisup Hanna), but I'm having a hard time justifying spending the extra 40% to cover the current exchange rates between the AUD and the USD.

We had alovely weekend, Saturday was fairly busy, but yesterday we chilled out by having lunch at the Bentleigh Club and listening tothe Groovin' Easy Orchestra in the afternoon. We also added more inches to our waistline by eating huge freshly baked scones with delicious strawberry jam and whipped cream, while theband played and others danced. :)How was your weekend?

P.S. Just in case anyone is interested, I have just drastically reduced all the things in the CLEARANCE section of my Etsy store.

  1. I didn't make any New Year resolutions either. I seem to always forget the resolutions after January if I make them!!

Don't worry, I am feeling the same lately as I have so many projects waiting to get started! And I do know what you mean about doll spending withdrawal symptoms. I get that too.

I keep hoping our exchange rate will improve but hubby seems to think that won't happen for a long while.

Oh boy it's been a long time since I've had scones with jam and cream. I might make some this weekend.

    1. I think it will be quite some time before we will get back to an even dollar Alasse, if at all in my lifetime, but you know me I always live in hope. :)

They were really yummy, we had four between us, with enough jam & cream for eight!! and that was mid afternoon, after a three couse lunch. It's no wonder I'm chubby. LOL!

  2. I do the same when I'm working on something! So now I prepare like tiny little boxes that I put unfinished projects and their materials in so I can easily continue! ~ It's fun to try to find some organization in the chaos sometimes! :D
I do hope you can order an IH dolly, they're all gorgeous!!

    1. You sound like you're a tidy one Irene, if I tried that I'm sure I would only have a stack upon stack of boxes. What I need to do is finish what I have already started before beginning another, but I really find that difficult to do. :)

Don't worry I am sure I'll cave in eventually and say damn the expense, I usually do.

  3. I think that getting things in order is sometimes hard! Although I tend to do it because otherwise I get too stressed. Also I do think Ah-ra looks perfectly nice for a sister for Hanako :3

And, please don't think this badly, but a 40% of exchange rate is lucky!! In my country is around 160% and it changes constantly.

    1. Hi Musume,
Order is always difficult for me in my studio, I have always been the same. The rest of my home is tidy, but I am a real messy person in mt workspace. Even hubby agrees, and when I can't find something he tells me "Try looking three layers down".

Are you saying you have to pay nearly three times as much or 60% more? Either way that must be awful for you. I'm just glad I bought most of my jdolls when our dollar was on par. :)

  4. Ah-Ra is gorgeous! and I also think it works perfct as a sibling for your supia girl (she's gorgeous btw!)

I'm very good at organizing, but not so good at being neat and tidy while working on something. I do however tend to organize everything after I'm done for the day unless I'm too stressed out haha. If you ever see my room or workspace messy it's because I'm way too stressed :P!

The price of the us dolar here is quite high too, though it has been more stable lately. When I joined the hobby the price was super nice, but now everything is much more expensive after the conversion, though not as bad as yours I think.

    1. Thank you Alejandra, i really love the Asian look to both these sculpts, we don't see many, which is a bit of a shame.

I am very envious, I have tried to be neater, but it doesn't last long. I guess being messy in my workspace is just more natural to me. :)

We all seem to have a similar problem and I suppose in the long run it's all relative to our income, so I guess I shouldn't complain, I think I have just been spoilt.

  5. I'm so able to relate to your worktable. I try desparately to be organised but it rarely happens. And yet I find it difficult to work in a mess. Oh well, one of these days!!!
Ouch on the 40% extra....bit like the horrible customs fees we have here in Spain and other parts of the EU...just spoils our dolly hobby, doesn't it!

    1. To be honest Sharon, it's probably a good thing, it's stopped me buying so many. :)
