As 2018 Ends

Firstly, I'd like to thank all those who have visited my blog and have taken time out of their busy days to leave comments this year. I have enjoyed sharing the doll hobby with you and getting to know you all a little better. It's comforting to know, that no matter how crazy this world can be at times, there are still people who can enjoy a common bond through their love of dolls, teddy bears and toys.

Now it's time to see who I brought home this year ~

BJD's were way down on last year, but brought my total BJD's to 83.

1. Denise ~ Kaye Wiggs Mini Layla, Fair Skin, Arrived 22nd January 2018
2. Fifi Muffet ~ Liz Frost of Wizworx Mini Fifi, Light Tan Skin, Arrived 27th February 2018

4. Lunette ~ Liz Frost of Wizworx Mini Lunette, Fair Skin, Arrived 11th December, 2018

So it seems, were my PLAY DOLLS, bringing them up to 43.

4. Bess ~ Robert Tonner, Tiny Betsy McCall, Arrived 28th December, 2018

FASHION DOLLS were something new for me this year, and eight came home. I think if I add any more dolls to my collection in the future, this maybe where you will see them.

7. Holly Golightly ~ "50th Anniversary Commemorative Fashion Collection" (How Do I Look #5 in the series) by Integrity Toys 2011, Arrived 24th December, 2018
8. Alysa ~ Luxe Life Convention Exclusive (nude doll) by Integrity Toys 2011, Arrived 31st December, 2018

The total of sixteen, is just one and a third dolls a month, that may or may not sound like a lot to you, and to be honest it's probably more than I need, especially as space has really become difficult to find here. And so I may will have to curb my desires a little lot in 2019 . . . however, I have learnt from past experience to never say, never. :)

I did manage to complete a few projects this year, even attempted others, which sadly I did not complete, so I am hoping next year I can finish all the projects I have started and begin a few of the others floating around in my noggin.

I was very lucky recently and spotted this one nude on eBay for a reasonable price and as her hair styling is like Misty Hollows Poppy, decided to bring her home. She should arrive sometime between the 10th and 16th January with any luck.

I'm never too fussed about not having the clothing that comes with the dolls as I really enjoy sewing my own. I'm even considering making some jewelry this year and perhaps some crowns or floral headpieces. I've made these items in the past for brides, so it will interesting and possibly quite challenging to make these items in a size which will fit these dolls.

Now, when I saw this next gorgeous gal, I felt this was one doll, where the elegant gown she is wearing, appealed to me as much as the doll herself. She actually comes with two gowns, but the second one did very little for me.

Well that's about all I can foresee for now, but of course, as any doll collector knows, a wish list can change from one day to the next . . . que será, será.

Wishing you all the very best for 2019, may it be a happy and prosperous dolly year for you all!
Big hugs,
X

  1. Looks like you've really fallen in love with the Integrity Toys dolls! Silly question - what's a quick switch feature?

    1. Yes, it's not too difficult to do Rachael. That's a good question, but as these dolls are new to me, I haven't the slightest idea! 🤔 Perhaps someone more familiar with them can answer that question for both of us.

    2. I found this link about it online here. I had been wondering that too and always thought it was referring to the hands but ... it appears to refer to the head. I've never tried switching out heads myself. Only on a Monsieur Z Integrity doll and that was hard (and needed lots of heating) - but that was made well and truly before the quick switch system came in I believe.

    3. That was posted in 2013, don't you think it's strange that these recent releases don't have the quick switch feature? Perhaps it wasn't as successful as IT thought it was going to be?? WEIRD!

  2. I love this as an end of year post. I always make resolution posts which never get met. Such is life!

It was interesting to see your list of dolls that came home this year. I think my total count was about 7 for this year and only two of those were bjds, one was just a body though!

You know what they say about Poppy? One is just never enough. She's quite addictive. I hope you are able to get the others at a reasonable price. If you ever get Misty Hollows Poppy, I think you will really like her. I have her and I adore her. I missed out on Out of this World Poppy because she sold out so fast but Misty has very similar face screening to her. If you do ever manage to find her nude and want her outfit, let me know. I have it and never use it.

I am still to this day kicking myself for not getting Erin Salston last year when I was in W Club. Her and Agnes in the white shirt and long black skirt and the short hair. Those were the two I regret not buying. Now, they are pretty pricey on the second-hand market. I really adore Erin's crown.

I would love to see the clothes and jewellery you make for the fashion doll girls.

    1. Thanks Alasse, me too, I am hopeless making resolutions.

I think I began the year full of good intentions, the early arrivals were probably orders from the end of the previous year. Seemed to have a lull in the middle and ended up bringing home most of the dolls later in the year.

Well I can see that already, I'll have to be really careful, but she is such a gorgeous looking doll that it will be difficult to resist temptation.

I'm surprised you didn't get her when you had the opportunity, she's selling for a really high price now! I wonder if all these dolls keep their value or are they high for a little while after release? Oh yes, me too that butterfly crown is beautiful.

Give me a little time, I'm still gathering my thoughts. :)

    2. From my experience, I've found that some dealers of the dolls will sell the dolls above retail. Not all do this but quite a few do. If the doll has never been removed from the box, the value jumps pretty high but even those who have been removed from their boxes but still have all their clothing, accessories etc can still fetch pretty high prices. The W Club Exclusive dolls, the Exclusive Convention dolls and the dolls available only via Lottery tend to sell second-hand for a very high price as they are considered hard to get dolls AND early dolls from several years ago fetch a hefty price tag as they are now considered very rare. But to answer your question, yes these dolls retain their value. Even nude, they can still sell for above retail. It depends on how popular they were when they were released. Some of the less popular dolls you can get at a really reasonable price and don't normally sell out.

    1. Thank you Joanna. It's not too difficult to find the dolls, it is however, difficult to justify spending the money they ask for them on the secondary market. I may just wait and see what IT releases in 2019 and hopefully get one or two at their original price. :)

  4. I'm still few dolls behind you in BJD's. :) It's been really nice to get to know you and your dolls. Thank you for your comments and activity in my blog. ^__^ I don't comment as much but I really like to see all kinds of dolls. Your wishlist is impressive! :D I wish you good luck with it. Also the projects: I think is good that you have some goals ready from this year. :) It's going to be so nice to finish them I'm sure.

May your new year be filled with dolls, fun and relaxation.

    1. Well time is on your side Xaya, you have plenty of time to catch up.

Oh you are very welcome, I have really enjoyed reading your stories about Granny and her crew, they are delightful. I understand everyone has a life aside from dolls, so it's not a problem, but I do enjoy hearing from you when you have time to spare. :) Like yourself, I enjoy seeing other people's dolls and how they photograph them.

Thank you for your good wishes, it's nice to have goals, but it's even better to complete them, so let's hope your wishes help me finish things this year.

Best wishes for a wonderful dolly year ahead.

  5. That's quite a nice list of arrivals this year!! I'm so happy you are looking into fashion dolls too~ our paths cross again! Oh and Misty hollows poppy is one of my favorite poppys of all time, but same as you I don't count of ever getting her. Plus, I decided to kind of give up on Poppy Parker. For now. There's priorities in my mind that need to be taken care of before I decide to start buying Poppys.
I wish you the best for this new year that is about to start.
    Many hugs!

    1. Hi Niina!
Hahaha! We're like two peas in a pod, but really, you cannot have TOO many dolls . . . just a lack of room to put them. LOL! Thank you, I hope I can find one at a reasonable price, otherwise I will just have to settle with what I have. :)

  9. Happy New Year Sandi, I hope it's a great one for you.
I like how organised you are on your dolly collecting, I have no idea who, if anyone will be coming here, except for two dolls that I already have on pre-order! I don't have a wish list either...maybe I'm an odd sort of dolly collector!!!
Well it has been great getting to know you more through your blog and our emails in the past, so long may that continue!
    Big hugs to you xxx

    1. Thank you, hope you have a wonderful one too!
Not really as organised as the blog looks. So far I only have one on the way from my wish list, but who knows what lies around the bend. :)

I don't think you are odd at all, I never used to have one either, I think this may even be the first.

I love getting to know all the dolly people that visit my blog, but there are only a few special people I correspond with privately via email, and I thank you for being one of them.
      Love and hugs,

  11. I'm happy you do Rachel. I do too. :) I can't promise that I will keep to this wish list as I am often seeing other dolls that I'd like to bring home, but I do need to cut back on dolls, I have too many now.
    Big hugs,
