Make Over: Step 1

The two dolls arrived today and after looking at the hair on the both of them, this one got a shave, a darn good wash and a lovely curly wig.

I was surprised the shoes didn't come off, and are actually part of the doll.

She probably won't stay this way as I am thinking of toning down the pink lips and shoes. I mean I love pink, but honestly, they are really bright!

I may even wipe the face completely, not sure yet.

The other gal went to the spa ~
After carefully parting her hair into sections, then brushing and combing each one, until I managed to pull the brush straight through. Once all the hair was untangled, I washed the hair with shampoo and added a conditioner.

Seeing her fringe was very crooked, I took the scissors to it and cut it straight. I also trimmed off any fuzzy ends. Then I plaited her hair in sections, hopefully when it's dry it will give it a nice wave.

If the worse happens and the hair looks awful, I shall use my straightener to smooth it out. Oh you may also have noticed the streaks of orange hair ran in the wash, but I kind of like it. :)

Next on the list for these two is some decent clothes, so tomorrow will be spent trying on some I already have, and seeing if any of my dolly stash has any shoes that fit this little gals feet.

Happy weekend everyone!

2/7 P.S. The final hair looks great, though I think I should have just ran my fingers through it rather than brushed it. Excuse the nudity . . . she's been framed. :)

Seeing her naked like this with her hair down, I am thinking she has rather a large head for the size body she is on. I wonder if I can find another body somewhere that would suit her head better???

  1. Oh wow, I love her with that curly wig. It just looks so adorable. I was surprised to read her shoes are actually a part of her body. That is the first time I've seen that. Do you think you will end up repainting that part or putting shoes on over the top?

I have to say, I really like the streaks in the second girl's hair. It's such a lovely vibrant colour. She's already looking so much better with her fringe trimmed. I really like the hair colour too. It's a lovely pale blonde shade.

    1. I had never seen that before either Alasse. I don't think I could get shoes to look right over the top, but I'll give it a go before I paint them. I was going to make her clothes first and paint the shoes to match.

There's actually a slight touch of turquoise in her hair too, but it was quite light to start with, so it's hardly noticeable now, unless you really look for it.

What do you think about the eyes with the purple eye shadow? Do you think I should change it to something softer?

    2. The result looks really nice. I like how soft her blonde hair looks now.

Normally I rather like purple eye shadow on dolls but if you're wanting to go with a more natural look, a softer colour would look good on her particularly with those lips and the hair colour. I can't even begin to think where you could find a replacement body. In the photo you posted, I find her head to body proportion fine but maybe she's one of those dolls that the proportions look different in person.

With the first girl, maybe if she was wearing socks and shoes, it may cover the painted shoes? The other option although it's more work is using some sort of air dry clay to sculpt shoes over the top and paint it. It will be interesting to see what you end up doing.

    3. Thanks, I can live with the hair for now, but I'm going to sleep on the face up and body for a little while and see where she leads me. You know all dolls tell you what to do eventually. LOL! I also think she looks more in proportion when she's dressed, there's something weird about her naked though.

I think I shall end up just painting the shoes, much easier. However, I have decided to wipe her face and try to make it softer and more realistic, especially the eyes. I will post progress on these two as it all progresses though.

  2. The wig on the first doll is very lovely. I'm all about curls, you know :D
I love the result you got on the second girl's hair. Looks so cute, and what a creative way of thinking :)

    1. Thanks Lise, it was one that I had in my stash and wasn't sure about it, but it's kinda growing on me. :) Perhaps when I get the right feel for this doll it will end up with some final tweaks.
I really have no idea of what I am doing sometimes and it's all experimentation until I am happy with the look of the doll, so the second doll is also still a work in progress . . . heaven only knows what she'll end up like. LOL!
      Thanks for stopping by.

  3. I particularly like the blond girl with the orange streaks, she has such a nice sweet face. I think you've improved her already with her newly cut fringe and hair wash/style. She is very pretty!

    1. I thought so too Sharon and I have done enough with her for now at least. The other one is definitely having a new face up though.
