Inspired by Dolce and Gabbana

Some of you maybe aware that I made teddy bears for many years, long before I began collecting dolls. It was a wonderful creative outlet and one that I enjoyed for almost 16 years. Often I would look for inspiration to create something new and exciting. However, sometimes, no matter how hard I looked, I could not always find it.

Then there were times when inspiration would simply arrive when I least expected it, often in the strangest forms . . . it may have been a colour, a fabric, a piece of music, a beautiful poem, a child's book or as in this particular case, it was a couple of wonderful Italian designers.

I kept the little clown on the left (Dulcie) and the other (Gabanny) found a new home overseas.

Hope you're all feeling inspired this week. :)
Hugs,
X

  1. Dulcie and Gabanny are super cute teddy bears, and I love how you made the noses, hats and collars :-). This coming weekend I'm visiting a dolls and teddy bears show, I am always amazed at how much variation there is in materials for and designs of the teddies! I don't collect them, but always enjoy looking at these adorable creatures :-). Hugs :-)

    1. Thank you so much Linda. I haven't been to a doll and teddy bear show for quite some time, but they are always good fun, so no doubt you will have a great time. Love to see some photos if you get a chance. :)

I haven't added to my teddy collection since I started collecting dolls although I have sold a few of them that didn't quite fit in any longer. I really need more space or better still a bigger house! LOL!

They are adorable and beautifully made. I love the "fur".

    1. Thank you Giac. The "fur" is actually mohair and it's lovely and soft.

  3. I really love seeing photos of the teddy bears you have made. They are all so gorgeous. I love the inspiration behind these and love how they look, the colours and material look so soft too!

You are a very talented person. I tried cloth doll making for a while but ... I'm afraid I am not a very good sewer so it didn't last long!

    1. That's kind of you Alasse, I glad you like them, I was tempted to keep them both, but I can't keep them all. :)

I really would like to make some more cloth dolls, but time is not on my side, it just slips by so quickly, "like sand through an hour glass". :) You should have another go, if you like making them.
      Big hugs,

  4. These are absolutely beautiful! I didn't know this was what you did before you got into the doll hobby, you're so clever!
They really do look lovely and soft and cuddly.

    1. Thank you Sharon. Yes and it was great while I felt the passion. I even taught bear making for about six years, but all good things come to an end eventually.

Their fur is really soft to touch, but they are quite firmly stuffed, especially round the joints. It makes it easier for the joints to move without putting stress on them or the mohair.
