Will I or Won't I?

That's the question I have been asking myself for the past week. It's a bit like "To Be or Not To Be" isn't it? Well it's been a real quandary, not knowing whether I should pre-order this gal or not. I thought this version of Poppy Parker was a stunner, I love her hair colour, her eye screening and those pretty pastel lips. Not to mention her absolutely gorgeous gown.

But I was waiting to hear if I managed to score a PP Looks A Plenty Gift Set which I missed out on last year, by not being a member of the 2018 W Club. Then Alasse reminded me of how much she looked like Misty Hollows, who has been on my wish list since the end of last year.

I figured, if I ever did manage to find a Misty Hollows for sale, she probably wouldn't have all her clothes and accessories and would most probably be much more expensive on the secondary market. But Sunday, of all days, I did find two NRFB's. The first was this one listed at US$425 and didn't even list international postage, then this one at US$499.99 plus US$30 postage.

That did it, there was no way on earth that I was going to pay that sort of dosh for a doll, especially when I could purchase a similar doll for a little over quarter of what they were asking. Luckily I managed to sell something on eBay, and I knew I only had to pay a deposit now, so I took the plunge and pre-ordered her! Heaven help me if she comes in at the same time as my BJD though.

Along with a dress that has a detachable train, so she can wear it two ways, she has a better range of accessories than Misty Hollows, with a second set of hands and a personalised clutch bag.

So it's goodbye to Misty Hollows and hello to Midnight Decadence . . . a win, win to me! YAY!!
May all your dolly dreams come true!
Big hugs,
X

  1. Yay! She looks almost monotone in that palette, which could make for some pretty dramatic looks.
Your "that's too much for a doll" sounds like me earlier today. I was working out how much a Little Darling would cost, and once I factored in shipping, GST, and exchange rates, I found I was way less interested!

    1. Hi Rachael,
I'm really against purchasing dolls that are way overpriced. You can forgive a little markup every now and then as long as it really is acceptable, but honestly some are asking ridiculous prices.

I own one Little Darling and she's quite sweet, but I wouldn't purchase another. The fact that they are hard to come by on the open market has made prices so darn high, much too darn high for what is basically a vinyl doll with limited movement. So I can see why you lost interest.

  2. She is gorgeous! Really love the style on this doll!
It is always good to look around when searching for a doll, the prices can really vary. I have seen that over here on different sites. Sometimes it is so much better to just buy first hand, because the second hand prices can hit the roof and beyond!
Look forward to seeing this beauty later on!
    Hugs!

    1. Hi Niina,
Oh I agree, but just lately I have found very little on secondary sites at prices I would pay. I am pleased I ended up ordering her now, because I have a feeling she will fit in to my story very well.

  3. I had been wondering if you would end up getting her. She does look so similar to Misty Hollows and I'll send you Misty's dress because I have absolutely zero use for it. I think I have her shoes too which you can have as again zero use for it. I mostly got Misty for the actual doll as she looked to me like Out of This World Poppy which I missed out on.

And wow, those are sky high prices for Misty Hollows but I'm not overly surprised. The IT dolls tend to go for a lot particularly those NRFB ones. I'm interested to hear what you think of this girl when you get her in hand.

I'm a bit under the weather at the moment with a cold. Thanks to hubby who decided it was good to share it around!

    1. Hi Alasse,
Yeah I wondered whether I would or not for awhile before committing. Her hairstyle is the same, just a slightly different shade of blonde, but her screening is quite different. I would say it's more dramatic, which makes her look a little older than Misty Hollows. That's very kind of you, I don't have a lot of outfits for my PP's . . . thank you. I haven't seen Out of This World, must check her out.

Yes, absolutely crazy prices. Oh I will let you know for sure, but we will be waiting for quite some time before she arrives, as you well know.

I do hope you are feeling much better soon, it's no fun being ill.
Take care of yourself, Big hugs,

  4. Awww, she is wonderful! And I must say, that even though I REALLY liked Misty Hollow, Midnight Decadence is much more beautiful. Guess those golden eye-shadows do the work ;). Congratulations! Can't wait to see her in your collection!

    1. Thank you so much Chiriann. The more I look at her, the more I like her and think how much nicer she is than Misty. At first I thought I was just trying to convince myself that I did the right thing, but you have confirmed it. :)

  5. She is beautiful Sandy, well they both are gorgeous, but I'm glad you didn't have to pay that inflated price for the other one. I see these girls as very 'grown up' dolls, so elegant and well turned out, they're lovely.
    Big hugs xxx

    1. Thank you! I agree Sharon, and I'm really pleased with the choice I made, she is very elegant as you say. Poppy Parker mold is definitely my favourite of all the IT dolls.

  6. Misty Hollow's was the Poppy I liked the most among all of them. Never put her on the list because those prices are absolutely crazy, but liked her. A lot.

But the Poppy you pre-ordered... Is amazing. I think its even more intresting then Misty! I can't wait to see your photos of her. :)

    1. Hi Joanna,
I have decided that in future, if I cannot afford to purchase a doll at the time it's released, I am not going to purchase them at all. The prices on the secondary market are so ridiculous now, most are sold naked and I really like their original clothes, so it defeats the purpose.

I am so pleased I waited now, because I think the Poppy I have ordered is much nicer than Misty. So sometimes it pays to wait. :) I'm so glad you agree with me...thank you!

    1. Thanks M, not exactly sure when she will arrive, I think she's due towards the end of the year in our spring.

  8. I read this post when it first came up, and today I went back and read through the comments. I'm so glad to find another person who isn't willing to shell out inflated prices for dolls. To me, it's more obvious when just the doll or just the outfit is being sold. *Maybe* a doll is worth, say, $160 as a complete set, with the hair and make-up going with the outfit, one cohesive look. But then I look at dolls or outfits for sale in the secondary market, and suddenly the individual pieces seem overpriced. Like you said, they're just a vinyl or plastic doll in the end.

    1. Hi Barb!
Oh I think there are many of us that aren't completely stupid when it comes to purchasing dolls, though when you look at what some are asking one is inclined to think, that they (the sellers) think we are! LOL!

I'd love to get my hands on some of the original IT clothes, as they are so well made, but the pre-loved pricing is simply rediculous. But I guess when you consider that the dolls are vinyl/plastic dolls which you can purchase from IT nude for around $60, I think the clothes, which have hand finishing, probably form a larger part of the overall costs.

Now in saying that, I guess I probably would be prepared to pay up to $100 for a COMPLETE outfit, including the shoes, jewellery and any other accessories that came with the original doll, but you very rarely see them complete. :(
