From the Front: Sage, Oregano and Basil. |
We have been picking the herbs and using them, but I do wish the Basil would grow a little quicker, it's my favourit herb. I also have a Rosemary bush in my front garden.
Parsley, Cos Lettuce (2 types) and Snow Peas. |
Leeks |
I don't know why, but the Snow Peas are just not doing very well, neither are my Tom Thumb Tomatoes. In previous years we have had great crops from both of these. I think all the crazy weather is to blame.
We also planted Rocket, but that bolted and just went to seed in a week!
Now to my beautiful roses, these are called Double Delight. They also have the most beautiful fragrance, hence their name . . . they really do delight me in two ways!
As you can see they begin opening as a deep pink and eventually you see their cream centre, every rose is different, it's like they have been hand painted. They have lovely long stems which makes them perfect for cutting. I don't know how many vases I have filled this year, they have been blooming for weeks. As one vase full of roses fades, another set of roses are ready to come inside.
An update on Willowmenia . . . she has arrived and I am sewing her outfit at present, so photos coming soon. :)
I'm so glad to hear Willowmenia arrived safe and sound to you! Looking forward to seeing what outfit you will make for her.
ReplyDeleteThank you for posting those photos of your herb garden. I think you are much more of a green thumb than me. My herb garden never looked so lush and full of life. I had trouble just trying to grow one pot of basil! Looking at your garden though, it makes me want to go out and buy some herbs and try again. I had some small success with growing shallots from the bottom part of the stem with all the roots (you know the ones we buy from the supermarkets here). It did struggle though. Maybe it's just this heat up here.
And your roses are so beautiful. I've always wanted to grow roses and have them in the house but never could because the cats would try to eat them but now that it's just D and I, maybe I can try to grow roses and start to have them in vases in the house.
Liz sent her Express Post as soon as she could, so she was here within two days . . . Australia Post have been on the ball lately. :)
DeleteHubby is really the one who takes care of it all, I just tell him what to plant and where. LOL! You should give it another go Alasse, you can get a punnet at Bunnings for just a few dollars. Though next time I won't be purchasing a whole punnet of parsley, they go crazy, so one would have been enough. I forgot to mention I have mint too, but I put that in a big pot as that spreads really easy, just like a weed.
We used to have several different colours, but when we restyled our back garden we decided to just stick with these and my Papa Meilland tea rose which is a very dark red. Google it, and you'll see the colour, it also has a beautiful fragrance.
I love flowers inside, and usually have sweet peas galore, but that darn wind blew them all of my trellis this year, I tell you "I was not happy Jan".
Big hugs,
X
Oh I've been thinking about growing mint as I use it a lot in my drinks especially during summer. It's the main ingredient in my refreshing Ginger Beer. Mint and Lime drink. I will have a look at Bunnings. Hubby hates parsley so we won't be growing that one here!
DeleteWell you won't have any problem growing mint, just make sure you put it in a pot. :)
DeleteFantastic timing. We've spent all day working in our garden and googling how to kill specific weeds.
ReplyDeleteYour roses are beautiful! Ours are half wilted by the time they bloom at the moment.
I'm always envious of pretty or successful gardens because I have a black thumb!
Thank you Rachael. The two things I have had problems with when growing roses are Black Spot and Aphids, check out this website for answers: https://deesnursery.com/black-spot-and-aphids-on-roses it should help you out of your problems.

Your garden looks wonderful! Roses are simply gorgeous, and herbs looks tasty ;). We have a garden, but no one really likes to attend it... so it's mostly grass with few bushes and a lot of Rocket (we didn't plant it. It just grows from itself, like a weed).
ReplyDeleteThank you Chiriann, the garden is looking pretty at present, but I don't know for how much longer. Once the summer arrives it tends to look a little sick. Well I ended up pulling all the Rocket out today before it went to seed, I know it can be a problem when it gets out of control. I wish you luck controlling yours. :)

Those roses are beautiful Sandi, and what a nice crop of herbs you have there too.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad to hear that your Liz Frost doll has arrived safely, I look forward to seeing what you sew for her :)
Big hugs Sharon xx
Thanks Sharon, I am not the best gardener, hubby is better (he has more patience) but gardening can be frustrating for even the most patient gardener. LOL! Still I cannot complain this year, at least my cooking will have flavour!!
DeletePosting photos of her shortly.
Big hugs,

Yay, she has arrived! Glad that she is safe and sound!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful garden you have! The rose is so beautiful!
Fresh herbs are my favorite to have in a garden and berries too.
Thanks for sharing! Hugs!
Thank you Niina, me too!
DeleteDo you have berries? I love berries, summer fruits are my favourite, but we don't have any of them in our garden.
Big hugs,

Thank you YeYe, I only have one Papa Meilland now, but four of the Double Delight which I am happy with. I love having fresh greens and herbs especially when I get the ping to cook, which I might say is not as often as I should. LOL! I'm a very lazy cook and love meals that can either be eaten fresh just as they are, or all thrown in a single pot together. Even with a small space you could grow some herbs, give it a go, I'm sure you will be happy with the results.

I'm glad to read that Willowmenia is safe at home. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your garden. Herbs looks so beautiful. I love rosemary. But I have to keep it at home during the winter
Thank you Joanna. :)

How did I miss this post? My partner and I are considering having a mini-garden in our new home. I would like to have, at least parsley. I love putting fresh parsley when I make meatballs or garlic bread, but if you buy it, you have to buy a lot and it rottens before you're able to use all of it. It's a waste of money, so I think having our own parsley plants would be worth it.
ReplyDeleteHi MC. There's nothing quite so delicious as fresh herbs, and parsley is very good for you, it's very high in iron and exceptionally easy to grow. You could grow it in a pot if you don't have a big garden, and the more you pick it, the more it grows. :) Good luck!
