Project: The Tailor's Shop (Pt.3)

Yesterday, I purchased another couple rolls of alfoil, but only used one, as well as a large of packet of long glue sticks for the glue gun. After adding more alfoil to the sides and some roots at the bottom of the tree, I got stuck into covering the whole thing with masking tape. I used a full 50 meter roll and it took me about three hours to complete . . . this is what it looks like now.

It's almost cave like to look at, but there's still another rather messy stage to complete before I can begin painting.

I added one of these LED lights (above). These are fairly cheap and you can find them in Bunnings and on line. For those in the USA, Home Depot also carry something similar, but it's round. I simply glued it to the ceiling with the hot glue gun, but I did cut a hole so I have access to the battery.

You can see in this photos, just how bright the light is, and there's no wires to worry about. I'll be back when I've completed the next stage.

P.S. 16th Nov. This morning I noticed some of my masking tape had lifted, so I suggest, if you choose to do a similar project, you purchase a good quality masking tape ( Scotch, 3M, Gorilla or Duck) rather than a cheap one like I did from the Reject Shop . . . a lesson learnt today!

  3. Thank you YeYe. The LED light create a great daylight effect to the inside of the shop, but I am thinking for warmth and an evening glow I may have to do something else . . . we'll see what that is when the brain comes up with something. LOL!

  4. It's all coming together so well. Shame about the masking tape coming off but I'm sure you'll sort it out. The little lights are useful, I think I've seen something similar in IKEA but maybe bigger.

    1. Thanks, but that not so sticky tape was false economy, I should have known better. A few dabs of PVC sorted it out though. Yes, IKEA was where I bought the tea lights, so I'm sure they would have them too, they are really handy for things like this.

  5. Hola Xamadú, es muy interesante seguir todas las etapas de tu trabajo, y creo que la parte de la pintura es la más satisfactoria. Estoy deseando verlo acabado.
    Besos.

  8. It's nice seeing how your project is progressing, Xanadu. You have Ducktape in Australia? Their headquarters is not very far from where I live, and they do several local Ducktape activities every year.

    1. Thank you Barb. I don't think so, but I have seen the brand online and thought they would do a masking tape. I didn't want exclude my international readers from doing a similar project by mentioning only local brands. :)

I bet they woud be fun, do you go to the activities?

    2. Hi, Xanadu, I've been meaning to reply to you, but with the weather change and the holiday we have here tomorrow, I've been busy. Duck Tape has a festival every year with games and contests and food, but I've never been. A lot of the other stuff they do is aimed at kids. Right now they're holding a "Stuck at Prom" contest, where kids can win college scholarships by making a prom dress or tux out of Duck Tape. :)

  9. Love the results! Those lights come in so many different sizes and styles, and even as decorative pixie lights! Great idea to have a light like that!

  10. Okay, that is looking really good and I love the scale of the dolls with it. That light is a brilliant idea. I must look for it at Bunnings. I've been wanting to add lights to my Barbie doll house as it can get quite dark in there even during the day for photos.
