100's of Dollies

They arrived yesterday, but these are dollies of a different kind . . .

My thanks to two wonderful bloggers who have inspired me ~

Firstly there was Rachael from Poppy and the Giant, when she began chatting back in November about the paper dolls she had drawn, printed and posted to the Royal Children's Hospital.

Then just recently, when I saw these little Minouche dolls playing with paper dolls on Minouche Doll. I have no idea who the blogger is, but if you recognize the watermark on her photos, please let me know. Her photos and her little dolls are exquisite and I adore how she has styled them.

However, I knew then and there, I had to order some of these wonderful little dolls for myself . . . and so I did!

The paper dolls are all of Dolly Dingle and her friends. I'll be using them for a project, well for the first of a two part project, the other part is over on my other blog along with information about the artist who created them . . . Grace Drayton.

Does anyone else have an interest in paper dolls? If you do, I'd love to hear how you use them. :)

      Grandes abrazos,

  2. Oh my gosh, Paper Dolls! Man, it's been years since I played with those. I used to have quite a collection of them back in the day (all gone now of course). I remember one in particular was a fairy and I used to play with it in the garden as a kid. The ones I had when I was older, I used mostly for the fashion (so I could either draw them or try and sew them in small scale size). Ah, brings back nostalgic memories.

    1. I think most of us probably did Alasse, they were around for years, still are today, but you need to look for them. The fashions on these are quite inspiring, and I look forward to reproducing a few of them . . . providing I can find fabrics suitable for the period.

  3. Yes Linda I thought the same, I even posted a comment in the hope she would reply, but alas no. She is obviously talented and I admire her skill at posing the dolls in such a way that they actually look like real children. :)
Did you ever trace them and colour them in different colours so your paper dolls had more clothes to wear? I know I did sometimes, especially when there was very little money available to purchase new books . . . we didn't get much pocket money back then.

    1. Hi Lily,
It seems no matter where we are in the world, we were all very similar little girls who loved playng with the same things. :) I'm glad you liked these, they are so cute.

  5. Hello there! Paper dolls makes me travel back in time, when my parents rented cottages during the summer and I used the fashion magazines the previous renters had left behind to make clothes to my paper dolls. I have always had a place in my heart to paper dolls. My favorite was Snow White.
You found such a lovely blog, Minouche Doll. Hoping for new posts there. Nice to look at photos like that.
    Hugs! <3

    1. Hello Niina,
Nothing like a good time travel to pick up the spirit! LOL! I think Snow White will always be a favourite, no matter whether it's paper dolls or BJD's, she and Alice seem to be the most popular fairytale dolls with our generation. I would love it if Minouche Doll had a revival, so much talent there!

    1. It's like we are all taking a stroll down memory lane together PP. :) Unfortunately I haven't found any chocolate dolls amongst this collection that I can share with you, which is a darn shame, it would have been lovely to see some. Thank you. :)

  8. I loved paper dolls when I was young. I think I loved them mainly for all the fashions you could have for a doll, without taking up a lot of space. Your new paper dolls are very cute. I just wondered for the first time if Dolly Dingle was any kind of inspiration for Mary Englebreit. The blue spotted dress above, with the red accents, reminds me of something that one of her creations would wear.

    1. Yes, and it didn't really make a difference what type of paper doll you collected, they all had wonderful fashions. And what inspiration they can provide for us dolly lovers today! Oh she could well have been, we all have to find inspiration for our creativity somewhere Barb. I look at these little paper dolls now and the little dresses just blow me away, I wish I had enough drive and hours in the day to make them all. :)

  10. That really takes me back! My paper dolls were a bit different, but I loved to play with them and make them new paper clothes! I was never really good with drawing, still, it was a lot of fun :)

    1. That's the key word Chiriann . . . FUN! I think it's important that no matter how old we are, we enjoy the life we are given and have fun . . . and everyone can do it, whether we are skilled at something or not . . . I am glad you had fun.

    1. Seems we all had paper dolls at sometime or other Joanna, and we all enjoyed them. These shan't be used as paper dolls as such, but as props for my dolls, and I am so pleased I found these particular ones because as you say they are really cute.

  12. Those paper dolls are A-dorable!

I played with paper dolls as a girl too. My grandmother always got me a book for Christmas. I never thought to draw and color extra clothes for them. I remember carefully taping the clothes together when thy would become tattered!

    Such nice memories.
