A unique ornamental addition to any garden, this flower begins with a large primary head first and proceeds to add heads on further branches as they develop, just like the yellow ones I showed you before. They have a long flowering period of around ten weeks and the most beautiful colouring which makes these flowers the perfect solution for adding life to your garden.
No garden as such? Why not grow one in a pot on your balcony, they are certainly worth a try and will brighten your day, every day! When I look at mine, I understand why Vincent Van Gogh painted them.
The Soul of the Sunflower by Sara Jewett
The warm sun kissed the earth
To consecrate thy birth,
And from his close embrace
Thy radiant face
Sprang into sight,
A blossoming delight.
Through the long summer days
Thy lover's burning rays
Shone hot upon thy heart.
Thy life was part
Of his desire,
Thou passion-flower of fire!
And, turning toward his love,
Lifting thy head above
The earth that nurtured thee,
Thy majesty
And stately mien
Proclaims thee sun-crowned queen.
On earth, thy gorgeous bloom
Bears record of thy tomb,
And to transcendent light
Thy soul takes flight
Till thou art one,
O sunflower, with the sun!
I've never seen a sunflower like this before; the colors and gradient are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours Barb, the flower reminds me of a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Keep your eye out in your local nursery, I'm sure they must have them in the USA too.

Hola Xanadu, no conocía esta variedad de girasol. Es una flor hermosísima.

Qué girasol más bonito, me recuerda a los colores del fuego.
ReplyDeleteBesos
Gracias maribel Sí, puedo ver eso, como una llama. :)

It's all thanks to my daughter Linda, for I wouldn't have even thought to look for them in the nursery, thinking all along they only came in yellow. :) I do hope you find some, I think they would do okay in a pot because they are not huge like the ones that grow in the fields.
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome, it's nice to know there are others out in the world who enjoy poetry. :)
Big hugs,

So lovely! I am a terrible gardener. SIGH. I am really impressed. What an amazing bloom.

Don't worry Brenda, I'm no green thumb either, my hubby does the gardening. :)

We had them once in our garden, when I was really young, but I have no idea what happened to them after that... It's a beautiful flower, nice to see it again :)
ReplyDeletePity you didn't keep some seeds Chirann, still I'm glad you enjoyed seeing it again.

This is so beautiful Sandi! I've never seen one this colour before, only the big yellow ones. I really love this colour, it looks hot like fire embers.
ReplyDeleteThat's a very nice poem too. Thank you for sharing.
Big hugs xx
I know Sharon, I was quite amazed by the colour myself. I wouldn't have had it in my garden to enjoy if it hadn't been for my daughter. :)
DeleteYour welcome.
Big hugs,

Oh wow, what vibrancy. I actually didn't realise sunflowers could look like that as well. The red blush on the insides just look quite amazing. I might have to see if I can try and grow one in a pot on my balcony. Do they need a lot of watering?
ReplyDeleteYes it's really lovely Alasse, but we hardly do anything to the sunflowers. They are in our back garden and get quite a lot of sun (facing north, north east) and only the water from the rain, so I reckon you could grow one. :)

What a beautiful sunflower Sandi, I don't remember to have seen one like this before. I used to see big yellow sunflowers when I traveled from Barcelona to Salamanca for summer holidays in my childhood.
ReplyDeleteGreetings ^^
