My Wilde Imagination

As my regular readers are aware, I arrived late to collecting Tonner dolls and after bringing a variety of Tonner's home in recent months and finding myself more than happy with them, I considered it was time to add an Ellowyne Wilde to my collection.

Once again, many Ellowyne's are highly overpriced, but I managed to find one with a different take on what most collectors might consider a traditional Ellowyne Wilde.

Not only did she have flat feet and inset hazel eyes, she also had a beautiful  natural complexion with freckles and lips that are, thankfully, not pink. More to the point, she was priced fairly and quickly jumped in my cart, however, I had a question which the seller completely ignored so I didn't buy her after all . . . I am not fond of doing business with ignorant people.

"Right on White" was released in the northern hemisphere's Spring of 2016, in a limited edition of 300. This pretty gal, with rooted golden blonde saran hair, had never been removed from her box and came complete with her stand and shipper.

I also found a gorgeous red head called "Amber Autumn Haze" which was also released at the same time. She reminded me of my pretty Agatha Primrose, possibly because of her glasses. If she had been affordable I would have snapped her up in a heartbeat, but her price was OTT.

Amber also had never been removed from her box and came with her Ellowyne designer saddle stand and her poem! Her flame-colored wig, styled with a bow, hand painted painted features with brown eyes and applied lashes were sublime.

Her outfit comprised a lovely maroon jacket with a floral corsage, matching pleated skirt, a sweater, striped black tights, black heeled shoes and glasses! This limited edition of 200 sold out very quickly and I can understand why!

Then I came across this one . . . "Essential Ellowyne Too - Redhead" (Fall 2008 limited by year edition #010-108), with painted blue eyes and long curly auburn hair. Her outfit ~ a simple two piece with lace trim, white patterned stockings and white high heeled sandals with black ribbon ties wasn't as stylish as the two previous finds, but she was another NRFB who came with her certificate, stand and shipper. What's more, I could clearly see this doll's potential.

So I made an offer, which much to my surprise, was accepted and I am bringing her home . . . isn't she simply divine? I love her voluptuous peach lips and attractive curly red hair (my weakness) and I'm looking forward to dressing her in something a little more glamorous.

There was another version produced in 2009, the Essential Ellowyne, Too Wigged Out (#101-111) with blue inset eyes and straight red hair.

All these 16" Tonner dolls are made of high-quality vinyl and hard plastic, with 12 points of articulation.

Thanks for reading, I'll be back again soon

  1. I can see what you mean about the second one reminding you of Agatha Primrose. Maybe it's the short pleated skirt too?
I love the dramatic eyes on the girl you bought.

    1. There really is quite a resemblance between the two, I'm actually glad you agree Rachael . . . now I know it's not me just being prejudiced. :) So do I and I'm hoping she looks as good IRL as she does in the photos.

  2. Ooooh it seems like we are on the same wavelength lately. I've been keeping my eyes open for an Ellowyne Wilde too but I'm looking more within Australia at the moment as I'm still wary of overseas shipping. Big congratulations on your new girl. I can see why you jumped on her. She is beautiful and I love that curly red hair and her smoky eyes. She is stunning. I hope she gets to you quickly!

I'm sorry to hear about the blonde Ellowyne girl but I know what you mean. I dislike ignorant sellers too and when they ignore your question, I can't help but feel they have something to hide and aren't being truthful about the doll's information or condition so ignore or avoid the question. Which of course sets off alarm bells in my head!

    1. Hi Alasse,
Like we are often. :) Finding one in Australia is going to be tough, I couldn't find one anywhere here. I know I'll probably have a long wait, but she's coming Global so she should be okay.
Me too, because I really liked that she was different and I loved her eyes, but I just think it's completely rude of people not to reply, even if they say they cannot help you. And of course it's hardly conducive to a friendly transaction.
      Big hugs,

  3. They're all lovely, but the amber eyes on that blonde one are to die for. You've been getting some really nice dolls here lately!

    1. I agree RM, I love her eyes too. There are so many lovely dolls around at the moment to choose from so it's only natural I'd indulge myself. :) After all there's not much else we can do here in Victoria with our latest lock down.

  4. She's lovely and it'll be nice to have her in your collection. I also love that first blond in the white outfit but if the seller doesn't answer your questions then it would make me want to back away too because you just never know what they might be trying to hide.
I have had several Ellowynes over the years but now I just have Dorothy and as so happy to have her....but she does need more attention, that's for sure!!

    1. To be honest if I had the dollars to splurge I would have all three Sharon, they all have wonderful qualities that I love . . . but it's just not happening now. I shall keep my eyes open for the other two though, one never knows what's round the corner. :) I'm happy with this one for the time being and I think she will be interesting to dress.
Did you make clothes for your Dorothy? I'd love to see some photos of her when you get a chance to share or perhaps when you get over your heatwave. LOL!

  5. Thank you Linda, I see her as being quite Bohemian, but you can never tell how a girl is going to turn out until she arrives and you begin trying things on.

  7. Hello! Such pretty dolls and glad you are bringing one home. She has a dramatic look, I like it! When I started to look around for dolls, I had a couple of Ellowyne Wildes on the list. But have not bought any yet. Look forward to seeing more of this girl later on!

    1. Hi Niina!
Do you still have Ellowyne's still on your list? I hope so. :) She is such a pretty doll, I honestly don't know why I never purchased one before now. I am quite excited about bringing this girl into the fold.

  8. It's both nice and frustrating that Tonner dolls are still so popular. It means that the dolls are quality, but it is hard to find one at a good price. I think the one you ended up with will be a nice addition to your collection, though; she's attractive. There are still sewing patterns for Ellowynne for sale too, if you want.

    1. Hi Barb!
I think Tonner dolls will always be held in high esteem by collectors, they are very well made and always beautifully attired, and that's probably why it's difficult to find one at a reasonable price. I feel quite lucky to have found one that I could afford, especially one that's so pretty!! :)
I have seen some patterns on Etsy, but I think I will end up making her something without having to purchase one. I do have a design in mind. :)

  9. I really love Ellowynes and I still hope one day I will be able to get one. Congratulation on getting yours, she is stunning! A shame about the first one (she's beautiful, but I completely understand your decision). I cannot wait to see what clothes you will make for her :)!

  10. They are all so beautiful! The first one is my dream, I think she's one of the best ever relesed. Maybe you will find her again?
The redhead beauty is a sister of my Ellowyne - I have the one with brown hair. :)

    1. I agree Joanna. Maybe one day, but not from this seller. I looked at a brunette and a blonde in this trio, but you know me and redheads . . . they truly are my weakness. :)
