A New Year, a New Day, a New Project!

A new year, is for me a time of reflection, not just about dolly stuff, but where my life path has taken me over the past year. Of course one also wonders whether there is a likelihood of any unexpected changes awaiting around the bend. I'm sure many of you are doing the same.

The new year is also when I find myself dreaming up lots of exciting new projects, all of which I have full intention of sharing with you.

However, summer is the season I adore, it's when hubby and I venture out and about more often than we aught, and we really let ourselves go! I admit, it's probably when my post writing time becomes scarce and everyone in the blogosphere gets a little neglected. So here I am, guilty as charged begging you to be patient while I finally get my act together. (To be honest, I sometimes I wonder if I ever will.)

All is not lost however, the sun was shining brightly this morning, so I thought to myself "what a perfect day for shopping". I knew hubby wanted to visit Bunnings (yes my 2nd favourite store) to purchase a couple of things and it's so very close to IKEA (my most favourite store of all) that I managed to twist his arm a little by telling him I only wanted a quick visit to purchase a set of mini drawers. (Mind you we left IKEA with more than just one thing as per the norm!)

These are the drawers (Moppe in Birch plywood AU$29.99) . . . I'm sure you have all seen them before.
Because they will sit in my Billy Bookcase, I shall paint them white. I am also wanting to add shiny gold card holders and tiny brass mushroom knobs, so the finger cut outs have to go! How? Easy peasy . . .  I'll just turn the drawers around, how simple a fix is that?
These are the card holders (eBay) and the brass knobs I chose (from Bunnings), which are in keeping with other brass trims I have on the rest of my doll room furniture . . . not exactly the same, but they were an acceptable option when I couldn't find the perfect match.

I will do my best to remember to photograph each stage of this project as it evolves and then show you what I intend them for in the coming week. So stick around if you can . . . there are many more projects in the pipeline. :)

  1. This project looks very interesting. I'll look forward to seeing the result. Hubby likes Bunnings too but I can never seem to find anything there!

I wish we had an Ikea up here but I don't think we're big enough of a town to have one.

    1. Hi Alasse,
Not sure if it will turn out the same as the picture in my head, but I'll give it a good try. :)

Well I know men can never see what's right in front of them sometimes, but that's really unusual for a man in Bunnings! LOL! Mine finds more than he's looking for, but then so do I.

We have two in Melbourne, and one of them is only ten minutes away, which is not a good for my wallet, but I do get plenty of exercise.

    1. Hi Alejandra, one must think outside the box you know. Ha ha! (Sorry about that, I couldn't resist the pun.)

Hey, I know you are having summer as well (not too hot I hope), but hubby asked me if you get snow where you are in the winter, I wasn't sure, do you?

We are expecting a hot day today, so I won't be doing much at all, maybe I'll hop in the Coco's pool. :)

    2. Haha nice pun!

I don't get snow where I live. A few times we have had a bit of snow falling, but it melts as soon as it reaches the ground. And it has happened like 3 times in my life, so when it happens it's quite the spectacle :)

    3. Didn't think so, your temperatures must be on par with ours. We get snow on the mountains near by, and sometimes up on our property (it's in the high country) but never here where we live ... just the occasional hail the size of golf balls!! LOL!

  6. Hello Xanadu!

Haha, I think that most husbands know what a promise like that means - I am just going to look or buy something small. My husband often says "oh, sure" when I say something like that. IKEA is a wonderful place and we often make it a day trip, browse, eat and shop. It is not far to IKEA, but it can take time to visit the store.

And yes, I do a lot of thinking about the year that went and the new year that is here. What does it have for us now. One only hopes for the best, but there is always something else lurking - oh 'positive' me.

Good luck with the projects and enjoy them!
    Hugs!

    1. Hi Niina,
I'm sure mine does too, but he humours me. LOL! Yes, it's easy to spend the whole day in there, but thiis time we only did one floor, so it was a pretty quick visit compared to our normal ones. Visits tend to be quicker during school holidays as it's packed with people and we prefer to browse during the quiet times.

Thank you, I will be painting them soon.

    1. Thanks Nikki. It really doesn't take much energy to do a project, it's more like making a commitment than work . . . you should try with something simple . . . it's fun and very satisfying once the project is completed.

  8. We were at Ikea too this week and like you, we never seem to leave there with just what we went in for! The temptation is just too great.
I have a similar set of drawers from there but my four drawers are all side by side. I never thought to customise it and have had it for years. Actually I think mine already has the little metal slots for labels, it is at home and I'm not, so I can't confirm this!!!!
I look forward to seeing it all customised. And like you, I have a lot of projects in the pipeline....hopefully they'll not remain there indefinitely!

    1. Hubby and I just can't seem to help ourselves Sharon, there is so much cool stuff in there! It's nice to know we aren't the only ones who get caught though. :)
They currently have three different styles, but all with the finger slots, no hardware. If it wasn't for where it's going in the doll room I probably wouldn't have gone to the extra expense.
I shall keep an eye on your blog to see what your pipeline has been hiding. :)
