A Golden Opportunity

Some folk think autumn rather a sad time, because it heralds the approach of winter (which you know I am not at all fond of). However, I love autumn, there is a wonderful rustle of leaves underfoot, the sun is warm and the breezes are softly cooling.

To me it's also a reminder . . . that just as the leaves are turning from green to gold, we have another opportunity to turn over a new leaf . . . another page in our lives.

My intention is to concentrate more on my sewing during the autumn, as I have been given a list by some very special dolls, for some very particular garments.

Winter will come soon enough, with it's depressing grey skies and cold rainy days, though for now I'd rather not think about it. And yet after the winter, the flowers and butterflies will be back again to fill the world with beauty, the sun will shine and I will be content once more.

I hope you always look on the bright side of life!
Hugs,
X

  1. Lovely words! We are in the middle of a snowstorm as I type this. It's very pretty, but the lack of light and sun is starting to get to me. Our winter drags on for a long time while the rest of the US seems to be blooming with spring buds already. I know, from living her for over 30 years that spring won't be here until about mid-April. I'm looking forward to green, and butterflies and blue skies again! I hope you enjoy your transition into autumn as it really is a beautiful time! :)

    1. Hi Farrah,
      Thank you. :)

I can understand how you feel, grey days always depress me, so I am glad our winter doesn't last too long. Our autumn and spring are always enjoyable, but even though the leaves are turning the sun has been kind this year and it's still been 30C this week.

I hope you see spring arrive soon and you can bask in sunlight once more. :)

  2. This is a lovely way to look at things Sandi. I struggle with autumn, even though we have a very short winter here, I still cannot fully shake off the slightly depressive feeling I get when the leaves start to fall from the trees...and often can't think beyond that. I think it just stems back to my previous life in the UK when we had such looooong dark evenings and miserable weather.
Spring and summer are my most favourite times of the year, particularly summer I think, I just love the long hot days and being able to rely on good weather....we've had a lot of rain recently but I'm just hoping that it's not long now until we have great days again :)

    1. I think autumn brings out the child in me Sharon. We have big trees in our front garden and I just love kicking the leaves about and listening to them crunch underfoot. :)

My aunt doesn't enjoy the gloom of the UK winters either she goes to the Canaries. So I can see why you moved to Spain. There is something to be said for warm sunny days, I think it makes us feel alive.

Don't worry that rain will soon go away, then everything will begin to bloom and fill the air with fragrance.

  3. I have to admit, I love Autumn. Such beautiful warm colours. And here, the weather is actually pretty nice around that season, not too hot, not too cold. I often lament the fact that we actually don't get a proper winter up here in the North. There may be a few days where it gets a bit cold (cold enough to have a doona) but those days are only a few up here. I'm hoping we get a good winter this year and it gets really cold. It doesn't rain or snow here though and we still get sun and it doesn't get overcast much during winter. It's bascially like a colder Autumn and it gets dark earlier (5.30-6.00pm). But otherwise, Winters up here are pretty tame compared to what you guys get in the South. And I think the lowest we ever got here is 4 degrees and that's really rare and happened once or twice one year during winter. It was wonderful!

I need to get back into sewing myself but I'm getting less and less free time now with work wanting me to do even more shifts for a while. It's not ideal as I had so many unfinished projects for my dolls that I had planned on finishing in the next few months which have now gone down the drain.

  4. Hi Alasse,
If you want cooler winters, you really should come down here! LOL! Though it doesn't snow here either, but the days do get grey and gloomy which I find so depressing. I am a sun seeker (though I don't sit out in it) I just love the light it brings into the house.

Just stay positive and think of the extra money you'll have to do dolly things with . . . and you won't have to work forever.
    Big hugs,

    1. I think I am the sort of person who likes the cold over the heat especially up here!

Thank you for the pep talk! I do have to keep reminding myself that I'll get extra doll money for the extra work. If I could, I'd love to actually just retire now. Work is a necessary evil I sometimes think.
