Project Mc2 Dolls

MGA (AKA Micro-Games America Entertainment) is an American manufacturer of children's toys and entertainment products founded in 1979. Among its product line up you will find the Bratz doll line, BABY born, Lalaloopsy, Moxie Girlz, and many other well known "toys".

Project Mc2 (pronounced Project MC-squared ) is an American web television series produced by DreamWorks Animation's AwesomenessTV and MGA Entertainment for Netflix. The series was first released on August 7, 2015 and MGA released their Project Mc2 dolls that same year with the tagline "Smart is the New Cool".

The Netflix Series Cast.

The original characters were: McKeyla McAlister, Adrienne Attoms, Bryden Bandweth and Camryn Coyle.

Camryn, McKeyla, Adrienne and Bryden

They have since added Devon D'Marco and Ember Evergreen.

So far, I have managed to find out there are two versions of these dolls. One version which is articulated, comes with a different science experiment or project for each doll and a simpler core version (NOT articulated), which includes just a beaker-shaped comb.

The experiment dolls have eleven points of articulation, a hard plastic body with a vinyl head and lower limbs.

You will notice the two versions are dressed differently though at 30cm (11.75 inches), both versions are play scale in size.

Now you all maybe wondering where this post is heading, and I can assure you it is heading down a completely new track for me. Thanks to my dear friend Sharon (the great enabler) I went browsing BblinkK's flickr and found these there.

They looked really interesting, and were the size doll that I have recently found I like, so after doing the research above . . . I made a small (yes I did say small, or if you prefer, tiny) eBay purchase.

They're "used" (I prefer to say pre-loved), but were a bargain at just AU$41 for the five including postage. I think there are two versions of McKeyla here (the one with pink hair is from the Invisible Ink Experiment & the one with dark hair on the right, wearing Adrienne's Volcano Experiment outfit, is from the Lava Light Experiment).

Devon & Ember were both missing, but I can always find them later. The dolls were listed "as is" so no experimental stuff (thank God), but they all had clothes and shoes (which I will eventually change).

Not a bad investment of the dolly pennies (I mean it's hard to find any doll these days with a price tag of just AU$8.20, even on the secondary market). With a visit to the beauty parlour for a spa bath, shampoo and hairstyling, I think they could look pretty darn good . . . what do you think?

Hugs,
X

  1. What a great bargain! :) No wonder you decided to buy them.
I like this dolls, especially the first one on the left, with burgundy hair. This one I would really like to have. :)
I'm looking forward to see your ideas for their wardrobe.

    1. Yes, I was very lucky to be in the right place at the right time. I'm sure you will find her Joanna, and they are not too expensive (compared to BJD) to purchase new. Thank you.

  2. I would class them as Fashion Dolls. I used to have one of these dolls on the non-articulated body (the one with purple boots). I did mostly buy her for her clothes when she was on special. I did hybrid her head onto a MTM body at one point which worked out great but then I ended up putting her back on her original body and donating her to one of the charity stores here. I like some of their fashion (some fit Barbie thankfully!) I never got the articulated ones though as the price was more than I wanted to pay for them at the time. They've virtually mostly sold out around here although they used to be really popular in places like Big W and Target and Toyworld. I'm curious to hear what you make of them when you get them in hand.

    1. Oh, so I just need to remove Asian my page heading then, I was wondering where I was going to list these. :) Thanks Alasse. I hadn't seen them here at all, but then I wasn't looking. LOL! Will let you know for sure.

  4. I'm excited you are entering the world of fashion dolls! Not sure if these or ruruko are fashion dolls, but they are kinda on that path and I'm excited to see you walk in it, as I'm fairly new on it too.
I feel most peple transition from these to more expensive dolls like BJDs and that we are totally doing it backwards, but isn't it fun?

    1. Hi Alejandra,
Alasse has confirmed they are, so all is good. :) Yes, I had very little interest in this type of doll until I saw these, although I did have a period when I collected Blythe. I'm not at all surprised I am going backwards, I always seem to tackle things from the wrong end. LOL! Yes, it is fun and not such a big tug on the wallet.

  5. What a great bargain, No wonder you you buy them quickly :)
They were/are here in Polnad in stores, so I know them, they are cute, but (safely for my wallet) don't call me to buy them. But I understand your fascination - I just discover Kuu Kuu Harajuku Girls dols and fall in love :D

    1. Well BB it was a risk worth taking for the price. :) I just checked out your Kuu Kuu Harajuku Girls, they are cute . . . with big heads like Blythe. I like them, but I think I'm safe for now at least.

  6. Haha I love that, Sharon The Great Enabler...yes I think you need to capitalise those three words ;)
I'm just glad you're having fun, those dolls were a great bargain and I think you'll enjoy them. Will you knit for them too?
I look forward to seeing them here when they've had their 'spa'....I've seen a couple of them in the past in our local Toys R Us.
    Big hugs xxx

    1. Hi Sharon!
It seems you have a wonderful way of pointing me in the direction of new dolls. I followed the link you gave me and there were so many dolls on her flickr account to look at, it was mind boggling!! At least this lot didn't cost me an arm and a leg.

I'd like to think I will knit for them, but I will have to wait until I have them in my hot little hands before making a firm decision. I will definitely sew a few things for them though, as I am never keen on "company" clothes, they are always so badly made and you know how much I hate Velcro.
I have been led to believe their hair is Saran, so it should come up okay with a wash, trim and style. The closeups were pretty good and didn't show any damage to their faces. Perhaps you should bring one home too. :)

  7. Hello and congrats on this great find! I have seen these dolls at the Dollarstore (new thing for us over here and so much fun) and almost bought one, Adrienne. Now, when I see your collection, I regret that I did not take her along. She was pretty. And still is. Well, I can always take that trip again and see if I have any luck! Hope to see more of these dollies here on your blog!
    Hugs!

    1. Hi Niina!
Thank you, if you get a chance to purchase one, make sure it's one with articulation. Mine arrived this morning and I'm pleased with them, though not as substantial as other dolls I have, I think they will suit what I have in mind for them. :)
