Project: Furniture 1:6 Scale (Part 1)

I always have trouble finding 1:6 scale furniture, but quite by chance I came across this piece which I thought would be perfect for my smaller dolls. It's laser cut and comes as a flat pack, which you assemble and paint. The cushions are not included, you have to make them yourself.

If you go to Fairy Meadow Miniatures website, you will find quite a few furniture kits in this size, all of which are reasonably priced at under AU$20. I thought this sofa was good value at just AU$12.95 plus shipping. I have since ordered the dressing table, chest of drawers and swing mirror.

The directions to make the sofa are really easy to follow, and there are step by step pictures included. In case you're wondering about the elastic bands on the top corners, I used them as clamps and it worked! Hubby's clamps were too big and bulky.

I did two coats of Jo Sonja Acrylic paint in Titanium White, then a top coat of grey, sanding lightly between coats. I mixed the grey colour myself by using equal parts of JoSonja's Titanium White and Folk Art's 442 Baby Blue, with a dash of 661 Metallic Sequin Black and I am really happy with the colour.

Using hubby's mouse sander, I gave the sofa the shabby chic look I was after. Now all I have to do is make the cushions . . . once I find the right material.

Do you have any projects you'd like to share? I'd love to see them!
Big hugs,
X

    1. Thanks Farrah, I have really enjoyed making this and am looking forward to making more. Perhaps this might be your year to tackle some of that long list? :)

  2. That's lovely. If you do more stuff like this bulldog clips work great as clamps if elastic bands won't work.
I won't order from Fairy Meadow anymore. Every order I've put in to them has been stuffed up and they've been particularly unhelpful when told about it.

    1. Thanks Rachael, I didn't have any bulldog clips, but the elastic band worked well.
Oh dear that is a shame, I have found them very professional, quick to post and respond to my questions.

  4. It's looking great so far!!! I love kits, it's so much fun! My brother was in a workshop where they had laser cutter so he cut for me some things I've used for my dioramas, but since I didn't want to abuse too much it was just smaller things.
I can't wait to see how it turns out in the end, you have great taste so I'm sure everything will look delightful. Are you getting ready for a diorama?

    1. Oh you were lucky Alejandra, I don't know anyone with a laser cutter. :( Still you were right not to push your luck, after all we need to keep our siblings happy.

Things have been progressing nicely. Thank you 💖 now I'm blushing. Oh you know me too well, yes for my other blog. :)

  6. That looks great! And the kit is so much more affordable than I usually expect kits like this to be, so that's brilliant! :)

    1. Thanks JS. Yes much more reasonable, the price the laser cut furniture is on Etsy is ridiculous and once you add the shipping it's just not worth it. I don't know what the shipping is from Australia to the USA, but I still think it would have to be a better buy.

  10. Oh gosh, thank you for sharing this amazing shop. I think I will have to get the sofa too! Love it when there's Australian companies who do this. Overseas shipping has become such a headache.

Really love what you have done with your sofa so far. Can't wait to see it done.

    1. You're welcome Alasse, I am ordering more myself, but not until next week. I'm spending my pocket money on myself this weekend ... nails and foot pampering. :) Just wish they did more in this size though.

Thanks, I shall look forward to seeing what you do with yours.
