Keeping It Simple

Just a few PINK birdies from downunder in the land of Oz!

PINK Galahs (above) are found in all Australian states, and are absent only from the driest areas like the far north of Cape York Peninsula. It is still uncertain whether they are native to Tasmania, though there are records of them dating back to the 1840s. We often see them in our park across the road, and they are common in most urban areas.

The Major Mitchell's Cockatoo (female left & male right), are also known as Leadbeater's Cockatoo or PINK Cockatoo. It is a medium-sized bird restricted to arid and semi-arid inland areas of Australia.

The Spotted Dove with its puffy PINK chest and vibrant PINK tootsies, is native to eastern Asia, and was introduced into Australia in the mid 1800s to early 1900s. They are now a common sight throughout eastern Australia as well as major towns in southern and south-western Australia. We often see these birds nesting in the trees in our garden and they can be quite noisy when courting.

The pretty PINK Robin is a small song bird, native to south-eastern Australia. Its natural habitats are cool temperate forests of far south-eastern Australia. I have only seen this bird IRL once in my life, when visiting the Otway National ParkEven though it's brightly coloured, its tiny so you are more likely to hear it, than to see it.

Do you have any PINK birds in your country? If you do, I'd love to see them.
Big hugs,
X

  1. I don't think we have ANY pink birds here, what a shame :(
All those birds are super cute, I really love the first 2 best though.
    Happy friday!

    1. Oh that is a shame Alejandra. Both those birds are similar to our Sulphur-crested Cockatoos that come down into our garden for a feed every morning. They are very noisy birds and can be quite destructive as they love chewing on wood to sharpen their beaks! Despite that we love seeing them around. :)

  2. We don't get Galahs up this way but we do get Cockatoos although not the pink ones, the white ones with the yellow mohawks (at least that's what I call them!) I get some of them in my yard. I get a lot of birds in my yard come to think of it ... my cat is an indoor cat and never goes outside. I saw the bower bird has built yet another nest out front.

I love Robins and never knew there was one that came in pink. We a lot of honeyeaters though. They're so tiny and cute.

    1. Oh I like that Alasse, "mohawks" made me laugh! They are the same as we get, and honey-eaters, but no bower birds. I could say I have one living with me, hubby likes collecting shiny things (like shiny new tools) hahaha!

  3. These are all beautiful birds, you have such amazing wildlife in Australia! I particularly like Cockatoos, and those pink ones are precious. I think that little robin is adorable, I didn't realise they came in any other colour but the ones with the red breast that we see on our Christmas cards every year!
I don't know if we have any pink birds here in Spain, I don't think so but then I'm no expert so you never know. I love watching the birds and listening to their singing and chirping :)
    Have a lovely weekend xxx

    1. Thank you Sharon, I guess we are pretty lucky to have such diverse array of living creatures. The little red Robin has been on Christmas cards for as long as I can remember. I didn't realise we had any here, until I saw the pink one, even then I had to research it to be sure it was a Robin.

Me too! Having trees in the garden encourages them and the park opposite us is a bonus. We have Ibis coming down there at the moment and the grass is covered with divots where they have been digging with their beaks for bugs.
      You too Sharon, big hugs,

  4. Oh, the pink robin is one the sweetest birds I've ever seen! I didn't even know it existed! The rest is cute too (maaaaybe beside the dove. They are waking me up for entire summer, so I'm not really fond of them ;)), but robin beats them all :D!
I don't think we have any pink birds here... Our bird are usually brown, gray or black (goes with the climate, I guess). We do have some colorful ones, but not pink, sadly...

    1. Yes he is a sweetie, and sort of chubby too, which makes me want to cuddle him. LOL! Yes all doves tend to be a little noisy and can be quite irritating when they keep cooing all the time.
That's a pity Chiriann, but even so, sometimes the plain brown, gray and black birds can sing a wonderful song.

  6. Pink birds! Love, love, love. Sadly we do not have any pink birds over here - well, maybe one with a hint of pink. That would be the common redpoll. The birds here have other colors like red, black, blue and gray. The robin has some dark to light orange, but no pink.
    Hugs!
