Project: Mid-Century Diorama (Pt 1)

It's unfortunate that China Post seems to be going around in circles lately, so I am still waiting on many of the props for this diorama. But I thought it was time I showed what I have done up to date.

The tulip chair in 1:6 scale.

Ikea shelving from the "Huset" living room set of doll furniture and the desk is a cake riser.

Floor is denim fabric stuck to board with spray adhesive and the rug is micro suede.
The window behind the desk will be changed shortly. I originally thought the beaded curtain would cover the blue and it didn't, so it looks like I need a window with a view behind the pelmet.

Let me finish this post with a big thank you to all who left comments on the previous post, I am so grateful to all my readers who stop by and take the time to "speak to me". :)
Big hugs,

  2. That is really great Sandy, I love dioramas and would love to make one...but space really is at a premium here at the coast. I also love her dress, it's perfect for her!

    1. Thank you Sharon. The best part about my dioramas is they all fold flat, the floor, even my window/pelmet is separate so it can be stored and the room can then be styled differently. I also have a problem with space so my rooms are deliberately designed that way.

    1. Thanks Joanna, blue with just a little red for warmth. :) Yes, I purchased a set of three from eBay. The other two that come with the set would be okay for a coffee and perhaps a low side table. They come in clear and black too.

  4. Hello! I love how the diorama is turning out. Did you make the tulip chair yourself or did you buy it? I also love the blue wallpaper.
    Take care.

    1. Hi! Thank you. No I'm not that accomplished, I purchased it from eBay. The wallpaper is adhesive fabric that I purchased from my local Spotlight.

  5. It's a great room and so stylish! Both chair, desk and shelves look like a part of one set. Aww, there is also a lot of blue, which is always a plus for me. The vase seems very nice too.

    1. Thank you Chiriann. I'm so glad they look like that too, I was concerned the white plastics may have been a shade or two different from each other, but they are a perfect match. Yes more blue than red, and the vase was a lucky find. :)

  6. Very clever using the cake riser as a desk! I am loving it so far. You can definitely see the era you are going for in this diorama. China Post can be weird, sometimes it's super fast and other times it takes forever!

    1. Thanks Alasse, I am happy you like it and understand my vision. Yes, don't I know it, one parcel has been sent to the airway twice already and now it seems to be suck in limbo. Another hasn't budged since the 31st March and I'm getting nowhere trying to get an answer from the supplier...which is typical. If they don't turn up I will put a claim in.
