A Blessing in Disguise

Remember this post? Well I guess owning a red haired Poppy was never meant to be this month. There were none left after the convention, not one, but funnily enough, there are quite a few listed for ridiculous prices on eBay. However, this little chick won't be paying the prices they are asking for them! No matter how much I desire a red haired Poppy, I don't like being ripped off, and it really annoys me that so many convention attendees purchase dolls, when they have absolutely no intention of keeping them.

As I like to put a positive spin on negative outcomes, I looked on the bright side and figured this was a good result for my purse. Now I don't have to stress about a poorly depleted bank balance and will be able to bring home my Fairyland Pukifee earlier than expected and thanks to hubby I've made my final payment on my Liz Frost Willowmenia.

On the other hand, if I don't manage to find a red haired Poppy through Integrity Toys before my W Club subs run out, I have made up my mind not be join the W Club in 2020. To be honest, those who live outside of the USA are really at a disadvantage. Not only do we have to pay to be a member, we have to deal with exchange rates, cope with the extremely high price of shipping and many collectors on "foreign shores" also have unforgiving customs duties to pay as well.

And what's the positive spin on that? Well it means I'll have more spending money when my daughter and I arrive in Paris next September!!

  1. I believe you'll find a red-haired Poppy when the time is right. Can't wait to see your new PukiFee...you didn't get PongPong, by any chance, did you?

    1. I guess you're right RM, it obviously won't be any time soon. :) No, I ordered Jude in tan, and can't wait until he/she arrives.

  2. The same was after Paris Doll Festival. Many people said they are going to sell the anniversary Barbie right after the event. And they showed up on eBay for more than 500$! Really.
I will never sell mine (of course if there is no real need - there are things important and more important...).
Liz Frost girls is so sweet. Congratulations! I can't wait to see her in your creations when she will arrive. :)
And more money for Paris sounds pretty good. :)

    1. Hi Joanna!
For us that purchase dolls because we love them and not for investment, it's so sad to see how people can be so greedy. I can understand people selling a doll they have had for a long time and no longer have the same love for it as they once did, or because of financial hardship, but just to make a huge profit . . . it really makes me quite angry.

I still have to work out what nursery rhyme she is going to be, but she will be dressed very similar to the other three Liz Frost dolls I have.

  3. Oh, I do agree that collectors outside USA face lots of struggles to get the dolls. And I wonder how they do the math on some of those exchanges, as some items are sold for twice the price, at least in Europe. I don't know much about Integrity Toys but Mattel, a big company, should have a collectors website for those outside North America, so we could get our dolls without paying high shipping prices.

I did write a post, years ago, about the struggles I had to find certain dolls in Spain. It was when I mostly collected Monster High dolls. Here's the link if you want to check it out. http://themonstercrafts.blogspot.com/2015/08/the-odyssey-of-finding-doll-in-spain.html

    1. Yes MC it stinks! I think many of them add the price of the doll and their shipping and then double it. I know how you feel, I wish IT had an outlet in Australia, but I doubt if that will ever happen.

At least you have some lovely Spanish made dolls to choose from, we have nothing much here at all. I will check out your post later when I have a little more time. :)

  4. I'm glad that you're able to find positives in your current doll situation, Xanadu. There are lots of dolls in the sea, as it were, after all. :)

    1. Well I do try Barb and it's always easier to put a positive spin on things once you have had a good old vent. LOL! And yes you are right, there are lots & lots of them, but unfortunately for us downunder, mostly overseas. In saying that I will continue to keep a stiff upper lip. :)

  5. It's a shame they ran out of Poppys but Willowmenia is adorable.
Ugh. I hate, hate, hate shipping costs!

    1. Hey girl, where you been? Yep, Willowmenia will bring me great comfort, although I didn't have high shipping costs on her as she is shipping from NSW, payment for her was in US$'s which when you convert at present, adds half as much again to her cost. Thank heavens for good hubbies.

  6. Such a shame that you couldn't get the red-head, but like you said, there are advantages to that too ;). You will still get wonderful dolls - other than Poppy, but wonderful nonetheless :). And I'm sure you will put your saved money to good use in Paris!

    1. Yep Chiriann, but tomorrow is another day and one never knows what is round the corner. You can bet your life on it, the saved money will certainly be put to good use in Paris. Aside from all the Paris fashion, I keep thinking of all those wonderful Patisseries. :)

  7. Of all the BJD's I own, Liz's are my favourite of my favourites. :) You can see her dolls here https://www.wizworx.com.au/ she doesn't make a lot of dolls, but those she does make, are really well made . . . they pose the best of all my dolls.

You're probably right YeYe, when I have no dolly funds I bet. LOL!

I think Vienna is the same face mold as my Limited Edition Chosen Kitty who has blond hair and green eyes. I'm so pleased I bought her when I had the chance, I'd hate to think how much she'd cost now.

  8. I agree with you, sometimes the prizes are like crazy. Have been following some sellers on the Swedish version of ebay just for fun, too see what they have. Knowing the prizes for dolls like Blythe, it can be ridiculous mount of money they want.
A red haired Poppy will certainly come your way some other time, and until that you can enjoy your blessing in disguise and a trip to Paris!
    Hugs!

    1. Yes, they are everywhere Niina, so I guess it's best, if we see a doll we like when it's first released, to buy it then, rather than wait until it's too late to get it at a reasonable price.

Yes, I guess she will, but I'm not in a hurry for her, so we will wait and see what temptation brings next. :)

  9. I'm sorry that you didn't get Poppy Sandi, but you're right, the prices after these events are abysmal and like you I'd not bother paying them either.
I love the little Liz Frost girlie that's soon coming your way. I really like the quality of her dolls and that Willowmenia is very sweet...it'll be great to see how you style her.
And yes, having more money to spend in Paris next year has got to be an added bonus :)
    xxx Big hugs.

    1. I guess it wasn't meant to be at this time Sharon. I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks as I do about the loaded prices . . . maybe there will come a day when everyone is of the same mind, but I really don't hold much hope.

Liz's doll are quite expensive, but I don't begrudge the prices for such beautiful and well finished dolls. Do you still own a Liz Frost doll? All mine pose perfectly, even after all this time they are still perfectly strung. Still not sure which character Willowmenia will be, but her name will change.

I'm actually beginning to get excited about this trip even though it's still a little while away. I just hope this Brexit thing is sorted out before hand!!

    2. I only got my first and only Liz Frost doll recently Sandi, she's the light tan Madeleine and yes so well made and really good quality too.
I agree, hopefully Brexit won't happen and everything will go back to normal, but I think the damage has been done already, the country is so split and there is so much angst I suppose on both sides, it will be a hard rift to heal unfortunately.
xx Have a good week xx

  10. This frustrates me too about the Integrity dolls. The second hand prices are incredibly ridiculous for some of these dolls. I mean, I sometimes thought BJD prices can be a bit up there too but Integrity dolls take the cake on that. Like you, I don't plan to rejoin either. I have no interest in paying those high prices just because I can't attend convention to get the good dolls.

And like you, positive spin, more money to spend on my BJDs going forward. Yay!

Big congrats on your Liz Frost girl. Her photo is amazing. She looks so adorable and lovely. She will fit right in with your crew. I can see why you wanted her.

    1. I guess in this case you could say "as one door closes another one opens" Alasse, there will always be other opportunities in the future, whether or not they will be to purchase IT dolls remains to be seen.

Liz is posting her this coming week and I am so excited to get my hands on this little one, as she is the first chocolate resin I have purchased from Liz. I still haven't worked out her character, I think I will need to see her first, then she will probably tell me. :)

  11. Well, it is sad that you didn't get the doll and quite annoying that IntegrityDolls does that. I checked ebay just because and you are right, prices are insane! I do hope you can get that Puki soon, then!

Will you be taking any dolls with you to Paris? I hope you'll have a great time!! :D

    1. Yeah but I am over it now Musume. My PukiFee will come to me hopefully for Christmas. My Liz Frost doll has been delayed by the fires in NSW, the highway is cut off, so no mail coming my way until the fires are under control up there. :(

Yes, I am thinking of taking my IT Poppy (Gardens of Versailles) but I haven't made up my mind for sure yet. I'm sure we will have a wonderful time. :)
