Project: The Tailor's Shop (Pt.4)

Well things haven't progressed very fast since I was distracted with my recent doll arrival. However, I did draft a list of what's needed.

I can tick two items which I purchased from Fairy Meadow Miniatures for the inside of the Tailor's Shop.

The dresser will be used to store bolts of fabric, the little hangers will eventually have clothes made to hang on them, the table will act as a cutting table and when I finally find the right size sewing machine (the one I purchased is a little small) the chair will sit at it. You may also notice the little clipboard on the table, that's for the Tailor to take down his client's details.

I haven't decided what colour to paint the furniture yet, so any suggestions you may have, will be noted and taken into consideration. :) And finally there is the sign to hang outside the shop . . . I thought this one was perfect.

Once I have finished painting these pieces, the fifth stage of my Tailor's Shop project will begin. The next step is very messy and I will need to wear gloves (which I must purchase today). I have this thing about sticky fingers, it's almost a phobia and besides who in their right mind wants to get PVA glue stuck to a very pretty nail job? :)

Well I have a busy weekend ahead of me, so until next time, have a wonderful weekend!

  1. Wow, I can't wait to see how this turns out! I'd give color suggestions, but I doubt you'd like the colors I suggest (they're colors that are better seen on fingernails, LOL).

    1. Thanks RM. Colours seen on fingernails could be any colour in the spectum these days, my own are currently mint green, so I would have been interested in knowing the colour/s you were thinking of. :)

  2. I love that sign!
Instead of painting the furniture, you could always stain it or give it a rub with some linseed oil.
You're crazy. Peeling PVA off your hands is the best part of PVA. When I was building my dollhouse I had to hide my PVA so my brother and my husband didn't waste it by squirting it all over their hands, just to peel it off.

    1. Me too Rachael. :) If the furniture was made of solid timber instead of MDF I would have considered what you suggest, but MDF is better painted.

UGH! Just the thought of it gives me the creeps! The males in your family sound a little weird to me. That stuff is just yucky!

  3. Is the next step some kind of papier mache?

  4. Thank you YeYe, but I still have a lot to do. I'm not sure what colour the furniture will end up being painted, I do like red and green, but I used both of them on the door. LOL! Knowing me I'll end up changing the colours back and forth untill I find the look I'm after.

  5. Hola Xanadú, todo lo que nos enseñas parece precioso, las pequeñas piezas de los muebles con tantos detalles... me encanta.
Te deseo un feliz fin de semana de juego y construcción.
    Besos.

    1. Thank you Chiriann. There was another lovely oval sign which I really loved, but it was just a little to large for this project. I think this one will look okay once it's been painted though. I need to make a tiny pencil to go with the clipboard, but I shall probably buy clothes to go on the hangers, I have enough to do already. :)

  7. It looks very cute already! I would paint some of the furniture red to match the door, maybe with some golden accents. A dark brown could look great in some pieces, as it goes with many other colors.

    1. Thank you MC. I actually painted everything brown yesterday, but it's not really doing it for me, so I may well try red next. Heaven only knows what colour the furniture will end up with. LOL! I'll keep trying until I get it right. :)

    1. Thanks Joanna, but the furniture won't be staying like that, I find it rather boring as it is.

  9. Oh that is looking quite good. Would you believe I still haven't put together the wardrobe I bought from there. It's on my ever growing to do list which will never get completely cleared I think!

I know what you mean about sticky fingers. I always get them when using PVA glue. I should put on gloves too but I always forget!

    1. Still so much more to do Alasse. Perhaps you'll find time after Christmas, I hope so. :) I find putting the funiture together very theraputic.
I get that same uncomfortable feeling when I get sand under my nails. Those food handling gloves come in handy when I work on things like this.

  10. Ooooh it is coming on well and that little furniture is really very cute. I like the sign too, it's fancy enough for this kind of shop.
As for colours, I'm very boring because I think it looks great as it is!! Maybe a bit of 'aging' to it?
I look forward to seeing the next stages :)
Big hugs and have a great week ahead.

    1. Thanks Sharon, the furniture has already had one coat of paint, there's no going back now. I think the sign is going to be a combination of black and gold with a vintage touch . . . so your idea of aging will be used there. :)

The progress of the shop looks great and the sign is perfect!
