Fireworks were shot from 22 city rooftops to herald in the new year in Melbourne.
As you can see from this news photo there were crowds of people everywhere . . . and we were nowhere to be seen. Hubby and I spent the evening with friends at the Victorian Jazz Club, Clayton RSL, where we enjoyed a lovely three course meal and more than a couple of glasses of wine, while listening and dancing to Shimona and the Cats Pyjamas.
It was a fabulous night! :)

Now to what's been happening in the studio.
Buttons the tailor received his custom clothes for Christmas, courtesy of Gugu Moda, and I made him the white apron with a little pocket to store his scissors in. He wanted to show you the sign which will be mounted on the outside wall of his shop. I'm pretty pleased with the way it turned out.
I also completed crocheting the little clown's hat. As you can see, these two have become friends.
And the shop furniture is finished. I gave each of the pieces a base coat, then a coat of crimson red, and a coat of beige, before rubbing it back with sandpaper to give it a worn look.
I then added a final coat of matt sealer and it was all done and dusted!
I also ruled lines on the table top to make it appear like it was made from planks, rather than being a solid piece of wood.
I think it looks like old furniture that has been painted several times before,
so hopefully it appears to everyone else, like it's been knocked about through years of hard work.
I have had little motivation to do much else, but I did manage to book and pay for our airplane tickets for our London/Paris trip later in the year. Now it's time to catch up on some blog reading. :)
Your New Year sounds wonderful. Those crowds though - wowsers. I think it was like in town here although I can't remember hearing any fireworks. There were most likely some. I was painting my art at the time and lost track of what time it was!
ReplyDeleteThe Tailor shop is coming along nice. I do like how that sign turned out. It looks very vintage as does the furniture and until you had mentioned it, I actually didn't realise that table was a block of wood. I thought they were separate planks put together!
Happy New Year! Wow, 2020 already. Where are the teleporters?
I'm not fond of crowds like that at all Alasse, so we never go.
DeletePerhaps not as quickly as I'd like, but I am getting there. I was pleased with the sign, I wanted it to look old and more like slightly weathered iron rather than wood. Hahaha! It's amazing what a red biro can do. :)
No teleporters here, but I feel like I have been transported from 2000 to 2020 in a blink of an eye, and each year goes past quicker than the last. I guess we all just have make the most of what time we have.
Big hugs,
X
Wow what a fantastic new years eve photo, I would've spent mine with friends if possible like you. :) That'd be the ideal thing to do, I had work so no rest for the wicked even in new years day (today) either.
ReplyDeleteI love the sign and the treatment on the furniture, they look great and worn like old furniture has many coats of paint. My granny had those things and they were always fascinating.
Happy new year 2020. ^__^ And hugs <3
That's a shame you had to work the New Year, but I guess you were just one of many that help make the celebrations for others successful. :)
DeleteThank you, my gran did too. To be honest, I had some like it as well, when we first married we couldn't afford new furniture.
Happy New Year & big hugs,
X
Oooh, it sounds fantastic! Your beginning of the year was simply perfect! And the results of your hard work on Tailor Shop are amazing - it looks better and better with each new entry. Little tailor is ready for work!
ReplyDeleteIt was a nice way to begin the year Chiriann. It's been on hold ever since, but I'll be getting back to it soon (I hope).

Little tailor is so cute. And his friend too. :) Table looks great.
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year!
Thank you Joanna. :)

Oooohhh! You called him Buttons! I feel flattered!
ReplyDeleteI like how you painted the furniture. A little hint of red looks great and you really did achieve the plank effect.
Happy New year to you too. It looks like you had a great eve.
Take care.
Yes, I thought the name you came up with was perfect for a little tailor . . . thank you MC!
DeleteI'm happy with the way the furniture turned out, now I just need a little motivation to get moving on the rest of it.
Happy New Year & big hugs,

Happy New Year Sandi! That photo looks amazing and seems the fireworks were very cool. I spent it in Barcelona, despite I don't like crowds I enjoyed the amazing show with fireworks.
ReplyDeleteYou've made a fantastic work with the furniture and everything else.
Greetings ^^
The fireworks always look great, but like you I don't like crowds and prefer watching them on the television. :)
DeleteThank you Lily. :)
Happy New Year & big hugs,

Happy New Year! Your New Year sounds amazing! The crowd was a lot compared to the crowd in our little town at midnight when the fireworks started. I could almost count them! :) I, family and dog enjoyed the moment.
ReplyDeleteThe furniture turned out very well, like the thought of old well used table. Glad that the cuties are friends! Adorable clown!
Hugs!
It was Niina. Normally we just stay home, but I didn't want to this year and I'm glad we didn't. :) Sounds like yours was fun too!
DeleteThank you!
Happy New Year & big hugs,
