Who Came Home in 2019?

There were very few additions to my collection of BJD's and play dolls in 2019.

Only two BJD's ~ Lucy Locket (Liz Frost Willowmenia arrived in Nov.) and Buttons the Tailor (Fairyland Pukifee Jude arrived in Dec.), which you have seen recently, bringing my total BJD collection to 85.

And just three play dolls ~ Annie Rose (a Vestida de Azul Paulina), JR (a Zapf Jolina) who is fully articulated but not actually a BJD and Camille (Corolle Les Cheries). These all arrived in September, which meant the playdolls rose to 45. Hopefully, this will be narrowed down quite a bit this year, as I plan to keep mostly the smaller sizes . . . 14" and under.

I want to sell all of my 16" Disney Animator dolls, unfortunately I'll probably have to let them go for much less than I paid for them, which is a disappointment, especially as I went to the trouble of knitting them all new outfits (although I did sell one doll last year, it wasn't an Animator).

However, my fashion doll collection had a huge influx from Integrity Toys. Between January and October there were ten arrivals, four of which were Poppy Parkers, bringing the IT total to 12. I also pre-ordered a two doll gift set which will arrive in April this year, so I'm not sure if that counts as a 2019 or a 2020 purchase.

Of course there have been some clothing changes with this lot, which I might add, will change again in the not too distant future . . . well at least I have plans, but right at this moment very little motivation. Nevertheless, as soon as I can get my butt into gear and begin sewing again, I promise the changes will be awesome.

As my grand total has reached 142 (which is far more dolls than I thought I would ever own), I have no plans for any additions this year (apart from those on pre-order) and I shall endeavour to reduce this amount down to 130 by the end of 2020. Wish me luck! I think I'm going to need it. :)

  1. Well, since you titled your post: Who Came Home in 2019?, I think the two doll IT set should count for 2020. :)

And now you make me want to go count how many dolls I have. I'm currently at the stage where I'm trying to cycle dolls in and out, so the number I own probably wouldn't be reduced, even if some leave here.

    1. I guess you're right Barb, never really gave it a great deal of thought . . . it is the weekend after all and the brain doesn't always work as well then. LOL! Maybe it's the wine!!

Oh please do, I'd love to see how many you have, it might make me feel less guilty. :)
      Big hugs,

  2. I agree with Barb. If they won't arrive until 2020, they count as 2020 dolls. I used that logic to order my new bjds before my doll buying ban was over.
This post inspired me to run and count my dolls. I got up to 96, but then I saw a spider and ran away. So I've got at least 96, which is more than I would've thought since so many left recently!
I'd guess my actual total is probably around the 150 mark. Not that it matters, if there's a spider, I'm never going back in there.

    1. Okay Rachael I'll go along with that . . . so there will be additions in 2020, but just two. (I know, I know, famous last words. LOL.)
Well spiders or not, just knowing you have 150 has made me feel a lot better about things around here.

  3. A great collection. It is a pity that you have to sell some dolls. I send cordial hugs.

    1. Thank you ZL. It's only because I'm running out of space, so I don't feel sad about letting some of the big play dolls go and a smaller collection is easier to keep under control. :)

  4. Hi Xanadu! What a great idea new dolls recap. I also wouldn't count the giftset as an 2019 doll, since it will get to you in 2020. However, I've never counted how many dolls I have, but now that I'm packing them, it seems like I have thousands.

Hope you're doing well. I've been keeping you in my thoughs because of the wildfires. Take care.

    1. Doing a recap keeps things in perspective MC and stops me from going overboard. LOL!
I can understand that, it must seem like an endless task, have you kept all your boxes?

Yes, we are doing fine thank you. You too!

  5. Wow, is that your total doll collection? 142? Gosh I wonder how much mine is if I was to count all my collections. I'm kind of a little scared. Looks like you've had a great 2019 doll year, lots of new faces. I'm sure you'll be able to move on the ones you don't need this year. There's always someone out there looking for a particular doll so you never know.

I knew you had a few IT arrivals but I actually didn't realise you had that many so far. That was pretty much my first year too when I started collecting IT dolls. They are very addictive. But they also photograph so well, are so portable and come with everything so ... they are tempting.

The only dolls I would consider downsizing this year myself is probably Pureneemo and maybe my Pullips although I have none of their boxes anymore. I recycled all of them as I ran out of space to store empty boxes!

    1. Go on count them all Alasse and make me feel better. :) I'm so pleased after reading everyone's comments that I am not the only one obsessed with dolls!! I hope I can sell the DA dolls, I don't know what posessed me to purchase them in the first place.

I sort of got carried away with the IT dolls, I certainly didn't plan to have so many and I may even sell one or two of them yet.

The only boxes I have made a conscious effort to keep are my Fairyland and IT boxes. I do have a couple of other BJD boxes, but I'm not sure which is which. Boxes are a pain to keep, but in some case a necessary evil. :)

    2. I feel you when you say about your DA dolls. I feel a bit like that about my Pureneemo dolls. I guess we just thought the dolls were cute at that particular point in time and got them. But our tastes have changed since.

It really is not hard to get carried away with the IT dolls!

I don't even have all of my BJD boxes anymore. I have the Dollshe one because I like the look of it, the MYDOLLING one, the CP EL one and that's about it. I got rid of most of them - those boxes take up a lot of space. And you can never find outer boxes to fit them anyway when selling so I tend to ship BJDs unstrung - for safer arrival and less shipping cost!

I did end up counting the entire collections, all of them. 145. I was shocked to say the least!

  6. Hola Xanadu, yo también he reducido mi colección de muñecas en el año 2019. Es importante saber poner un límite porque en el coleccionismo es fácil perder el control.

    Un abrazo.

  8. Thank you Linda, Lucy is such a lovely doll it's hard not to lover her, and I feel Buttons is going to be quite a character.
That's why I need to downsize a bit, space is a problem when you have large dolls and I know I will feel happier with a slightly smaller collection. Whether it be in size or the number of dolls is yet to be seen. :)

  9. Lucy is truly beautiful.
I am sure you have already been told this: Don't stress out about how small or how big your dolls collection is. What really matter is that you keep the dolls that you are really interested in and that you have space for them.

    1. Thank you, I adore her. I'm not really stressing about the amount of dolls, but rather the amount of space the larger chubby dolls take up. If I sell the Animators, I'll have more room for smaller dolls. :)

    2. I totally understand your point, since I had to get rid of 3 of 23" dolls Paola Reina dolls in order to have room for more smaller dolls.

    3. Would have much preferred to add another room to the house, but all the money got spent on dolls. Hahaha! If I lived in a world of my own making, everyone of us would have a very large house, with a very large room, especially made for dolls. :)

And on the more serious side, this in a fantastic collection! Good luck with the reduction, if that is your wish :). But I'm still in awe...

Just need to move big dolls on, only to make more space for any little ones that sneak in under the radar.

  11. It's just a number, a bit like 'age'....so I wouldn't worry too much about how many dolls you have, unless you are feeling overwhelmed by the numbers, which sometimes I get with mine. I'm OK at the moment though, I haven't increased my numbers too much since getting rid of so many in the early part of last year.
I love your little Lucy Locket and you've reminded me that I was going to do a bit of work on my Madeleine too, maybe I will get to that soon!
    Big hugs xxx

I shall look forward to seeing what you do with your Madeleine, you do wonders with your dolls . . . it's such a pity I'm not making it to Spain, I would love to see your collection, maybe another time??
