I have been seeing these little faces appearing around the internet for a while, but never really thought about ordering one before now. They are made in China and are available on AliExpress for just a few dollars with free shipping. However, shipping from China takes a long time under normal circumstances and with Covid 19 adding to delays, I wasn't prepared to wait indefinitely for an order to arrive.
So when I found one on Etsy, and from a store in Australia, I ordered a little nude doll to see exactly what they were like IRL. They are 16cm tall, (so about the same height as a PukiFee) and they have a large vinyl head with a twelve jointed plastic body. If you check my Pinterest you can see how similar dolls can be customised.
Now after doing some more research, I found a few listings on Ebay which were quite similar, but these dolls were shipping from Japan and called Holala Doll by Fairy Town. They share the same size clothes and shoes with Licca, Blythe and Azone XS dolls. However, these dolls sell for a great deal more than a few dollars. There are two dolls around 20-21 cm (closer to RealFee size), the other is called Pipita, neither doll appears to be as well jointed though.
Then I found this chart . . .
Even though there seems to be a whole lot of mixed info regarding these dolls, I think the size I purchased is called a Mimiko doll, and although she was more expensive than the ones on AliExpress, she was still cheap compared to those on eBay, so I have a feeling she may well be a fake. :(
Still this wee one that's on her way to me should be fun to dress and customise. So when she arrives, and after I have finished with my Blythe doll, I'm going to have a little play in the hope she turns out okay. If she doesn't, then I won't have wasted too many dolly dollars.
Nice chubby doll. I have Chinese dolls http://zaciszelenki.blogspot.com/2019/11/zabawowo.html
ReplyDeleteHugs, I wish you a lot of health.
Hi Lenka,
DeleteYes, I have seen those too. Yours are very cute . :)
Big hugs,

I'll cross my fingers for you! Hope she does indeed turn out okay!
ReplyDeleteThank you RM, only time will tell. :)

What you got is a fake Holala doll ~ Holala is made by Jenny and she is from China. The copies copied the head but put them on a jointed body instead.
ReplyDeleteHi Irene,
DeleteSo in your opinion she has a Holala head and not a Mimiko head? Oh well I guess the girl I bought her from bought a fake and I probably paid too much for her. Goes to show one shouldn't be so impulsive. :)
Big hugs,

I see Holala dolls on Instagram very often, Xanadu. The trend for Korean doll companies seems to be these dolls with a vinyl head, big eyes, and non-bendable arms and legs. The Mimiko is unusual in all the joints that she has. Ali Express dolls are usually fakes, but I agree with you that she will be fun to dress and pose. I hope she turns out to be a nice little doll!
ReplyDeleteNot sure where Korea comes in to play here Barb. The only references I found with these dolls were to China and Japan. Anyway, you are right, she will turn out to be a good project to re-paint and dress. :)

I've seen a lot of these dolls, or similar, on Instagram too Sandi, but I don't think the ones I saw were multi jointed. I like how people are customising them, they are very cute. And very popular now too.
ReplyDeleteYou sure chose a tiny though!! I would struggle to sew that small these days, I struggle with the Lati Yellow size now, or more likely I'm just very lazy about sewing that tiny again!!
I hope you'll really enjoy her!
Big hugs xxx
They are rather funny peculiar dolls that look great customised, but then I have always liked the weird and wonderful. :) I'm used to sewing /knitting for PukiFees so dressing this doll shouldn't be too stressful, being so tiny I can sew it all by hand or knit it in fine cotton or lace weight wool. I think she will be fun to work with.

That's an interesting doll, I've never seen this before. I like the shape of the head rather than the actual factory paint. If I could do repaints, I would get one myself too.
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to see this doll and any upcoming projects you may have.
Oh you must check them out MC. Yes the head is a great shape, very kawaii and changing the factory paint is a must. :) Well the fakes are certainly cheap enough that you could have some fun with it although you may not like to purchase a fake. Had I known before hand I probably would not have purchased it as it goes against my principles.

Me too Sandra, I'll let everyone know what she's like when she arrives. :) I want to re-paint her face and make her something cute to wear.

Interesting! Copy or not, I hope you will like your new purchase and I'm very curious to see her on your photos and after some customization! I always prefered more articulated dolls... And her face is so cute!
ReplyDeleteHugs, hugs!
Thanks Chiriann, I'm sure I shall. :)

Hola Xanadu.
Jajaja
Grandes abrazos,

Hello! It is a cute little chubby face and I have seen these dolls here and there. Adorable. Fake or not, I do hope she brings you joy! Hugs! :)
ReplyDeleteHi Niina!
DeleteYes it is and she has PINK hair too, but I guess it was the chubby face that caught my eye in the first place. I hope so too. :)
Big hugs,

Hi Linda!
ReplyDeleteI think now you will see many more of them they seem to be quite popular with those who like customising. I want to make her into a real cutie if I can. :)
Big hugs,

Hello Xanadu, I hope you are safe and that the same goes for your family. Wether she is a fake or not, this doll is cute. I am sure you are going to turn her into something amazing.
ReplyDeleteHave fun and stay safe!
Thank you, we are and I hope you are too! I hope I can do this little one justice, I will certainly try when she finally arrives, Australia Post is taking a long time with deliveries at the moment.

I must be living under a rock because I have never seen these dolls. They kind of remind me a little of Pullips. But smaller. What's that smaller Pullip size called again? I can't remember but those. They're cute. They're not badly sized though. Interested to see what you do with her.
ReplyDeleteHahaha! That's what you get for hibernating with the Sims! :) Not sure about the smaller Pullips as I've only had one of the larger ones. You and me both, she will be an experimental doll.
DeleteBig hugs,

DeleteGrandes abrazos,
X
She's really cute.
ReplyDeleteThank you Joanna! :)
