Wicked Descendants

After my private discussion with Chiriann about her Descendants dolls, and after viewing the ones she had, I went browsing.  This gave me a chance to look at all the different releases and eventually I found two which really appealed to me . . .  I think these were dolls from the first release in July 2015. However, the prices now asked for these 11 inch vinyl/plastic dolls was incredulous!!

Meet Mal (left) Isle of the Lost, the wickedly lovely daughter of Maleficent and a beautiful addition to your modern-day Disney adventures. Unlike her mother, the darkest villain of all, Mal chooses good above all else. She comes with an outfit for the Coronation Ball and fashionable accessories fit for a Queen, including a tiara and matching shoes.

Meet Evie (right) Isle of the Lost, the enchantingly beautiful daughter of the Evil Queen and a beautiful addition to your modern-day Disney adventures. She may have villainous roots, but that doesn’t mean her fate is sealed! She comes with an outfit for the Coronation Ball and fashionable accessories fit for a princess, including matching shoes and crown-shaped earrings.

It appears these dolls were released in "waves" and several variations of the same dolls appeared over the following years. These were simply outfit changes as far as I can tell from photos. Below are the Disney Descendants Villain Descendants Signature Figure Wave 01 - Mal & Evie. Personally I much prefer the Coronation dolls better than their Signature versions.

These costumes do nothing for me, so I went looking for pre-loved dolls, preferably nude and I was lucky enough to find one of each, but the condition of these dolls was 50-50 and I think they are Wave 01. Their bodies looked great, but that hair . . . oh boy, their heads looked like they were wearing rats nests!! Still I could see their potential, so I offered a very low price, which was finally accepted and here they are, just as they were listed.

Yep, Evie's hair surely is badly tangled and Mel's looks like a chunk of hair is completely missing at the back, however this hasn't been cut, according to my research, it's the way the doll comes! Their faces are all still in perfect condition and their joints are all sound, so I am happy. :) I'm not sure if I can remove the "gloves" off of Mel's hands, but I will try, then all I'll need to do is begin their restoration to beauty!

So a big thank you goes to Chirann for enabling me (not that I need much pushing to buy a doll or two. :)

P.S. The follow up of this dolly project will be on my other blog.

      Grandes abrazos,

  2. I discovered these dolls some time ago. And I had Evie, the first wave doll... But I didn't liked her at all that time. I sold her and now I regret... Well, bad luck.

    1. Well, you'll simply have to find another Joanna, you cannot live with regrets. :)

  3. I have been tempted by these dolls when I've seen them for sale at the big flea market not far from here....but I've always stopped myself because I really do not want to get into yet another type of doll but I like how people are customising them.
Is that your plan? To customise them? I look forward to seeing what you do with them.
    Big hugs xx

    1. I wasn't, until I was Sharon. :) I shall probably redress them first to see how they look, then if I think they need better faces and I am in the "right mood" I probably will. I have to finish my Blythe girl first though. I have too many UFO's at the moment.

  4. I hope that you enjoy your Descendants dolls! I looked at the Descendants dolls a few times myself, but I had already a lot of Ever After High dolls, and I like them better.

    1. I think I shall Barb, to me they are a little bit of a cross breed, between Barbie and other types of fashion dolls. I do like EAH dolls, but there's so many of them, I daren't go there. :)

  5. Congrats on getting them. Yes I agree, the hair on them look quite messy but I'm sure you will tidy them up in no time at all. It's hard to know how to remove the gloves off Mal. I used non-acetone nail polish remover to remove gloves on my MH dolls and they were fine but I made sure to be quick and not let the remover dry on their hands before washing it off with warm soapy water. I can't remember the vinyl the Descendant Dolls were made of - it was so long ago now since I had mine and gave them away. But maybe test it on a patch that you can hide behind clothes or something if you're unsure. I've never tried Isprop Alcohol on my MH girls though, mostly because every Chemist up here has sold out for months and I can't get my hands on any so I can do the face up on my Elfdoll boy. Ack.

    1. Thanks Alasse. I have in mind to cut Mel's hair into a smart bob, I don't like those bits that dangle down the side of her face at all.

For some reason I thought it was you who bought Freddy recently, but I read so many blogs now that it's hard to remember who's blog has posted what. :)

  6. Yes, I like their faces, but I'm not sure about their bodies Linda, I don't own any MH dolls. I may have to see if I can find a body comparison online. :)

  7. Hi Xanadu! I've never been very into Descendants dolls, but I do have the same Evie as you do. I did a review years ago and, for some reason, it started getting lots of views a few months ago. I feel like many playline dolls are relased in "waves" that usually follow a theme. There were different waves from this line, and the themes followed the movies and the animated series. It's not a collection I'm willing to complete, but if I had to get another one I will probably get a Mal doll from the 3rd movie, I like her face better.

I'm glad you managed to get a couple of this dolls. Hope you enjoy them and keep you company during lockdown. Take care.

    1. Hi MC! I don't suppose they are everyone's cup of tea, a few months ago I probably wouldn't have given them a second look myself. After reading your comment I took a peek at Evie on your site, you did a great review. I haven't seen the 3rd wave Mal yet, but I will keep an eye out for her just to check her out. :)

I think for the money I paid, they'll be good value and I should have fun with them.

  8. Hi Sandi!

I found these dolls very cute when I first saw them years ago, though I don't have them in my collection XD Congrats for this purchase, I find their bodies very similar to Ever After High dolls. OMG, that hair looks really bad! But I'm sure they will look very nice after the spa and hairdressing session.

    Greetings.

    1. Thank you Lily. They are not the usual purchase for me, but I thought I'd give them a go and see what they were like, they only cost me a few dollars so I feel I can experiment with them. :)

  9. Hello and congratulations to your new findings! They look pretty but I have not seen these dolls over here in stores or on the internet. I like their faces and look forward to visiting your other blog to see the next chapter in this story!

    1. Thank you Niina. I was surprised to find them here in Australia, but it appears they were sold here, I just didn't know about it. LOL! I am not sure when the last lot were released, so it's possible they may have come and gone before you realized, I often don't discover a doll until years after they were first released on the market. :)

  10. I'm really happy you liked them :)! I didn't watch the Descendants film and frankly, beside the desciption on the boxes, I have almost no idea about the whole Descendants lore, but I liked the dolls (I'm not sure, but I think I saw them on someones blog). Still, their original names and origins gave me the idea for some kind of parody, which ended being their story on my blog.
At the time I was buying them, the prices were reasonable, even for the coronation versions (all of my girls are from that line).
Beside the hair, both girls you bought looks great! Yes, Mal's haircut in that version was... a bit strange. Have lot of fun with them!
    Hugs, hugs!

    1. It was a good experience for me Chiriann, I enjoyed learning all about these dolls and as I told you I hadn't even heard about them before, and certainly didn't think I'd find any in Australia, but I am happy I did . . . even if their hair is cactus. :) I will enjoy fixing them up.
I only wish I had been able to find the coronation ones here, but it was not to be.
