I love the cloche hats I ordered from Janette, they are just gorgeous and so well made! However, when I put them on my girls I felt the outfits they were currently wearing didn't quite do the hats justice.
These dresses, which featured in a 1920's Perry, Dame & Co. catalogue, are probably more in keeping with the the style of the hat. Could they be the answer to my dilemma?
Maybe they are more suitable for girls slightly older than that of the Fashion Friends. Perhaps I should look at the younger children's styles for inspiration?
Actually seeing them now, both on the same "page", there's not really a lot of difference between the younger and older girls styles.
These samples from The Delineator October 1922, could just be the shot too! I love the coat on the top right.
So what do you think, should I give it a go and try to make something similar for my girls? Which one would you choose if you had to make one your own doll?
Maybe I'll just knit something instead. Until next time, keep on dolling!
I love 1920's style! You should definitely try your hand at one of these.
ReplyDeleteMe too RM, not just fashion though, I love the the 20's style of jewellery too. ๐ I will, when I get in the mood to sew again.

Oooh, I love, love, love looking through old catalogs and dreaming about what to make. Delineator 3960 looks the easiest of the bunch, if you wanted to start with something like that. The yoke could be an addition above a plain bodice with the skirt gathered to the plain bodice. The coat and hat also look nice, and winter is coming to you Down Under.
ReplyDeleteYes it's something I could do all day Barb, I really enjoy looking through old fashion catalogues. I even have some old discontinued Simplicity and Vogue pattern books that they have in the sewing stores, they are often a great source of inspiration. I'm still undecided, but when the sewing mood strikes I'd better make the most of it! ๐คฃ

Hi Sandi,
ReplyDeleteI like the one in the middle of the bottom photo with the little girl holding the pumpkin. It looks age appropriate I think.
Hugs,
Dorian
Yes, I agree it's very sweet Dorian, but I'm not sure if I'm up to doing embroidery and that looks like it also has a bound finish . . . you sure picked one with a challenge. Somehow I think I will end up choosing something really simple (and quick) but we will see. ๐

Hi Linda,
ReplyDeleteI am leaning towards the coat with winter on it's way down under, but these girls will still need something to wear under it. I like plaids but it's difficult to get them in the right scale for dolls. I'm thinking if they are going to wear a coat, I'll keep the dress simple so as to not add too much bulk. I do like that pink dress though. ๐

I like the red one with like a plaid print from the last image. I feel like it's something a tween could wear back then. I also feel that one could become a two piece outfit, with a blouse and a separate dress.
ReplyDeleteLet us know which one do you choose to make.
Me too RM, it's looks to me that it is actually two separate pieces. Two piece outfits are definitely more versatile because the can be worn with different clothes.
DeleteI am still thinking, but you will see it when it's done. ๐

Those dresses would be perfect with the hats. It's so fun to see how things come back in fashion. And those patterns look quite modern, even if they're almost a 100 years old.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I agree Mia, what goes around, comes around ... eventually. ๐

The one with the cat! And not just because of the cat, of course :). It looks really unique. And yes, I think that the hats would look lovely with this fashion. The dresses at the top are lovely. I hope this kind of clothes will make a come back soon :). Hugs, hugs!
ReplyDeleteAre you sure it's not because of the cat Chiriann?? ๐ There is so much detail in many of these garments which you just don't see in today's fashions. I'm not sure I would like these fashions exactly as they are pictured, but there are many elements of these designs that I would like to see in clothes today. In saying that, after shopping with my daughter Saturday, I can see the shift is back on the rack here in Oz.
