After many years of success, Paola Reina presented a collection of Las Amigas Articulated dolls. Unfortunately I never saw them until recently.

Of course all the above dolls are sold out on the PR website, but there are still one or two available on the secondary market at double the original price.
These innovative dolls maintain the style and originality of the classic Las Amigas, but with an improved and more flexible body. They are made of vinyl and have 10 high quality joints in shoulders, elbows, legs, knees, waist and neck that allows each joint to move independently. Thanks to their flexibility, they can adopt multiple positions and you can place them in a wide number of poses to take photos.
Shoulders & Legs: They have the same joints as always, being able to move the arms up and down. The union of each leg with the hip, has a traditional joint with which you can move it back and forth.
Elbows & Knees: They have a ball joint, which offers greater flexibility of movement, allowing you to pose them in a greater number of positions.
Waist: These dolls have a new joint in the waist that allows you to turn half of their body laterally to the left and right.
And after spending hours and hours browsing, I came across this darling doll on Etsy who I simply HAD TO HAVE.

But when I went to order her, Cathy (the artist) told me she had dyed her hair and given her a fringe. CLICK HER TO SEE HER NOW What a difference a day makes . . . so what do you think? To me she had lost her appeal, even though she still had everything else the same, I could not feel the love I initially had. Hopefully Cathy will eventually make another doll down the track that will steal my heart. SIGH!
Now I'm going to sulk and sew to take my mind off my lost love.
Have you checked out the vinyl articulated bodies for Paola Reina from other sellers? One is Ellys Action Body (you can find the seller on Ebay) and one is the icukla body (on Etsy). And of course the resin bodies like darak and raccoon. And if you are looking for absolutely adorable custom Paolas, prodollsteam might be of interest. I understand your frustration. But the regular Paolas are adorable just as they come, and you can always shave the head and put a wig on them.
ReplyDeleteYes, I've seen those, but I don't want to change the bodies of the PR dolls I have. I would have liked the one with the curly hair in the middle, but I refuse to pay more than retail price for a vinyl doll. Unless of course it has been customised like Cathy's doll.
DeleteI will just have to wait until PR bring out another lot as see if I like any of them. :)
Big hugs,
X
P.S. I received your message, thanks but I don't do FB! ๐
Not doing FB is a wise decision- I wouldn't either if it wasn't for the job. I took a closer look at the doll that is up for sale on Etsy, and I think it's not the same doll. The teeth and eyebrows are different. I guess you were just a bit too late and she sold "your" doll.
DeleteI had to blow up the photo, but I think you are right Mia, even the eyelashes look quite different.
DeleteIt's so annoying when you miss that there is a doll out there that you would have loved to have bought when first out but discover them when they are no longer being made !
ReplyDeleteDoubly so when you then find out and it's changed before you get the chance to buy her. Such a shame you missed out on her but if you don't love her with her new colour best to wait until another one comes along and makes your heart skip a beat !
I think PR will be making more of these dolls Dee as there is quite a lot of interest in them.
DeleteThe second doll was a customised one, and I was stunned when she told me she had dyed & cut the dolls hair, especially seeing as I'd already added the blond to my cart! It was just not meant for me.
Big hugs,
X
PS did you know you can buy the body from the US ebay and fit the head from your doll ?
ReplyDeleteYep, but I don't feel like customising a doll right now, I still have a ton of UFO's to complete.
DeleteSuch a shame! Yes, she looks totaly different now, definitely less cute (still cute, but not so much). Hopefuly there will be another one, but... shame, really.
ReplyDeleteI heard about the articulated Paolas, I think I also saw some kind of comparison of different bodies for this dolls...
Yup, here:

I'm glad you could see what I mean Chiriann, but I guess it's a case of ... another day, another doll. LOL!
DeleteChecked out the link, thanks for that. I didn't realise there was another Spanish doll with a similar body and the basic one is quite reasonably priced too.
Big hugs,
X
I see your point - in fact I found it hard to believe this is the same doll!
ReplyDeleteBut to see the upside, certainly something pretty will come out of your sulk-sewing!
Please feel hugged...
She certainly lost her good looks overnight! Oh the sulking is over now and the sewing is coming along fine. I've almost finished hand sewing four dresses ... it's been very theraputic.๐
DeleteThank you Uschi, I do.
Big hugs,
X
It's too bad there was "the one that got away," but I'm sure you'll find a nice one with time.
ReplyDeleteWell sometimes it can be a blessing in disguise...especially after taking a second closer look at the doll that was supposed to have had a hair change, I have to agree with Mia's deduction...it's a different doll. I guess I will, but from a different artist I think, or maybe I will just customise my own afterall. ๐
DeleteBig hugs,
X
Like you, I do prefer her with her blond hair. I do prefer articulated dolls over stiff ones, as they offer more possibilities for photography. Maybe if they were quite successful there's a chance Paola Reina will bring them back.
ReplyDeleteHave a lovely week ahead.
I do too MC, but even those dolls with only 5 way jointing who appeal to me find there way here. I am hoping so, they sold out quickly so it would make sence to do so.
DeleteThanks, I shall, you too!
Big hugs,
X
C'est la vie. There will be others, I'm sure.
ReplyDeleteWas it "Dolls and Dolls" that sold the bodies? I guess we will both have to wait and see. I did email Sergio Santacreu, but I haven't heard back from him yet. I will certainly let you know if I do.
Big hugs,
X
Hi Sandi!
ReplyDeleteThat's a pity, the doll doesn't look the same. I also think she looks better with blond hair. Well, sure you'll find another doll to have a crush with.
Articulated dolls offer more possibilities for photography, maybe PR will bring them back.
Greetings ^-แดฅ-^
Hi!
DeleteI've slready found some cute little boys but they won't arrive for a little while. ๐
I'm sure they will, in the meantime I have managed to find another Spanish doll with an articulated body and she will arrive with the boys.
Big hugs,
X
I agree that the doll is not the same anymore, too bad it was changed. I liked that blonde girl more too.
ReplyDeleteI try to catch up on things in blogs. Nice to read your posts even if I don't comment them all. ^__^
Hugs
Hi Xaya!
DeleteThat little blonde definitely had something special, but she simply wasn't meant for me.
I understand, sometimes I enjoy looking but find I have little to say that hasn't already been said by someone else. It's just nice to know you still visit. ๐
Big hugs,
X
Hello!
ReplyDeleteNah, that was a big change and I did not like it. She had so much personality with the blond long hair and no bangs. Hope you find another one who steals your heart.
I saw those jointed Paola Reina dolls while browsing the net on the search for my first doll from her. They look great and gives better possibilities to pose.
Hugs!
Neither did I Niina. I doubt if I will order from her now after having it pointed out that she was not modified, but a different doll altogether.
DeleteYes, we will need to keep an eye on PR in case they bring out more. ๐
Big hugs,
X
