Project: Seasonal Greeting Cards

With Christmas almost upon us, I thought it would be fun to make a few Christmas cards in dolly size.

You will need:
 your printer/scanner
card stock (preferably glossy)
rotary cutter or scalpel
metal ruler
cutting matt

I used a few old Christmas cards that I'd kept, scanned the outside and saved it to my computer, then resized the images. Of course you could use copyright free pictures found on the net if it's easier.

I wanted my cards to be suitable for my larger dolls so all my cards were sized to 95 mm on the longest side when the card was fully opened. I then cut and pasted them to one A4 size sheet, printed them on card (at 72 p/cm or if you prefer inches, 182.88 dpi) and cut each one out.

Finished dimensions of the cards opened flat: 95 x 70 mm (3.75 x 2.75 in) approx.

Sorry about the colour, I know they're looking washed out. In hindsight I think the cards would have looked more vibrant had I used glossy card instead of the matt card.

This size is suitable for 16-18" dolls, as you can see by my little Animator doll.

I have reprinted them on 165 gsm glossy paper so you can see the difference it makes to the colour.
Hope you have fun making some for your dolls.
Big hugs,
X

    1. Thank you Alasse, yes, perfect size for Animator dolls, but the size would need to be adjusted for different size dolls. :) You're welcome, I hope you have fun making some.

    1. Hi Giac!
Thank you, I am really pleased you liked them. Of course you would have to shrink them so much smaller for your use in your miniature world. :)

    1. Thanks Alejandra. I think the people that sent them to me in the first place made the choice for me. Oh I do hope you give it a go, they are an easy project to do. Yes you can resize them to any size doll, but it will take a little practice to get them right...try copying my layout and print it at 50% and see if it works. Good luck!

I wish people still send Christmas cards - it's so rare now.

    1. Thank you Joanna. Oh I still do, not as many as I used to though, now I no longer have work colleagues to worry about.

  7. This is a lovely idea. Sadly my dolls wouldn't have anywhere to put them, so I think they will have to send out virtual Christmas cards this year and live in hope that they get the same back LOL!
They look very cute though and if I had a room box I would definitely decorate it for Christmas and add some cards too :)

    1. I doubt these will last past Christmas, I have too many tiny bits to store now, but they will come in handy if I do any Christmas dolly shoots. :)

Perhaps you should have a room box, you could always make a temporary one in a bookshelf if you have one. I want to try doing a Christmas one in my billy bookcase in the doll room...I think it could be fun.
