In My Quiet Time

I have been working on a fire place, it's not finished yet, but I am happy with my progress so far and so I thought I'd share a WIP photo with you today. The mantle still has to be stained and fixed to the top and I have to put the filler in between the "stones", blacken the inside of the fireplace so it looks like it has been used and add the wood.

This is the second use I found for the flame-less tea light, which you can see sticking up in the centre. Hubby drilled a hole so it would sit low and I  would have access to the switch underneath. (More on the first use of the flame-less tea light will follow in another post.)

I also had something rather unusual happen today . . .  I had an offer too good to refuse for my Gotz Happy Kidz Katie (2015) which I receive back in March, 2017. She was one of my very favourite play dolls (and you all know how I feel about red haired dolls), but when someone says they are desperate to own such a doll, what is one to do?

So I decided to let her go to someone who will love her, rather than see her sit on the shelf in the display cabinet in my doll room, while I am busy playing with my dolls.

I'm curious to know if this ever happened to you? Has someone contacted you and asked if you would sell a particular doll?

It's rather cool here today and I have been yearning for something more substantial than salad. So I have a large casserole cooking in my slow cooker that is smelling rather yummy and I'm off to enjoy it now. Hope you are all having a great weekend!
Big hugs,
X

  1. Oh that fireplace is looking fabulous. I love what you have done. I can almost feel the bricks under my fingertips. That is a great idea to use a flameless candle. Can't wait to see the finished product.

Big congratulations on selling your Gotz Happy Kidz Katie. What a nice surprise for you.

I have to admit that I have never had anyone contact me about selling a particular doll. I would definitely be open to it but it would depend on the doll. Some dolls I will never part with.

Hope you are having a fantastic weekend!

    1. Thank you Alasse. The bricks are made from egg carton, so they do have a natural rock-like appearance about them. Shouldn't be too long before it's finished.

That was quite a surprise, I just hope it doesn't turn out too good to be true. I guess only time will tell, she's been paid for but I will be on tenterhooks until I know she's arrived and the girl leaves positive feedback.

A quiet one, but looking forward to getting more craft done. Hope you are too!

  2. The fireplace looks great - I'm sure it will be especially lovely when you will lit the tea light!

No, it never happened to me, but it would be interesting to know, that someone may like one of my dolls so strongly ;)...

    1. Thanks Chiriann, I like the realism that the tea light will add to the fireplace when it's all aglow. :)

It's a bit of a shock when it does happen and one can be in quite a quandary trying to decide what to do, so I hope it doesn't happen again to be honest with you.

  3. Your fireplace looks great! I have an old Sindy fireplace that has a tiny flashlight bulb inside, but I think a tealight is a better way to light up a mini fireplace without electricity.

I've never had someone seriously ask to buy a specific doll that I own. Not sure which of any of my dolls I would give up, at the moment.

    1. Thanks Barb, I wanted to make it look as realistic as possible without bothering with wiring and this seemed to be the easiest way to do it. Good old IKEA came to the rescue once again. :)

It was difficult to let this doll go, so I see your point. However, knowing there were a couple of other dolls in my wish list made the pain of parting a little more bearable in this instance. Not sure if I would do it again though.

  4. Fireplace is wonderful. And using tea light is a great idea. I used these small led lamps (with a little bit of help from my Hubby too) in the lanterns that Druid-Evangelines had. :)
It was truly a nice surprise with your doll. :)

    1. Thank you. Still a way to go, but I am happy so far Joanna. Yes, those tea lights will come in handy and I'm sure we will both find lots of uses for them. :)

Not jumping up and down yet Joanna, only time will tell if I made the right decision.

  5. Great fireplace! And great use of a tealight! It's always more fun and rewarding to find ordinary stuff to repurpose in things like this than buy stuff from hobby shops (That are WAY more expensive anyway).

    1. Thanks Rachael. :) I love finding things like these and you are so right about hobby shops being more expensive . . . anything to do with creating/art seems to be that way.

  6. Hello there! The fireplace looks just great! And those flameless lights are great for many things. And safe too. I have some that use batteries, but there are some that work on sunlight too.
I have never gotten a question like that, someone wanting to buy my dolls. Where I found them, how much they cost and such are more usual. I can imagine it was a surprise and then hard to let go. But you made someone else happy, who will love her a lot!
Hugs and enjoy the new weekend ahead!

    1. Thanks Niina. Mine use batteries, the solar powered ones wouldn't be much use indoors, bu okay for a dolly campfire outside in the garden. :)
It appears so, and I'm happy too.

  7. That fireplace is really good, it looks very realistic and will look even more so once you've done the extras that you mention. Well done!
And that is great that your red headed Katie will go to a new home where she'll hopefully get played with :) I have had the same thing happen to me too, in the past people have contacted me and whilst I had no intention of selling beforehand, the temptation was too great and like you, I felt that my dolls didn't get the attention that the new owners would give them. I have also been on the opposite side too, where I've said to a person that if they were ever to think about selling a particular doll, please let me know...and they have!!! It's lovely how that works in the dolly world, isn't it!!
    :)

    1. I'm not so happy about letting her go now. The girl was really friendly beforehand, but has been ignoring me and hasn't left any feedback since she arrived in the States. The money has helped, but it's left a bitter taste in my mouth.
