Verity Delamore-Larkin

After two years of debate with myself over my lovely Napidoll Rogebell head, I made the decision to part with her. I really wanted to finish my Steampunk girl, Verity Delamore-Larkin and complete her outfit, but every time I looked at Rogebell, and as hard as I tried to imagine her as Verity, her face just didn't fit the character. I am kind of sad because I really loved her sculpt. Unfortunately, she was a large head with an extremely young face and all my youngsters are tiny dolls.

Her sale however, has allowed me to purchase a head that will be perfect.

Of course there will be a long wait before she arrives, but I have waited this long so another few months shouldn't deter me at all. (Famous last words, I know I will be chaffing at the bit to get her.)

In the meantime I will be searching for just the right wig, I love the way this one has been pulled up, but my gal will be wearing a hat, so I will have to wait and see what eventuates.

Of course now I am not at all sure how the head will fit on the body I have on hand, so that may well be another challenge for me down the track. Sometimes I wonder if I will ever get her completed, but I am determined there will come a day when I can finally introduce my pièce de résistance to you all.

Monday

Progress

I have been working on my throw rug over Easter and now have a grand total of eight blocks of nine (72) granny squares all joined together. At first I wasn't quite sure how I was going to join them, but decided I would use a neutral colour to crochet join them rather than sewing them together.

I like how it creates a raised seam and contrasts nicely with all the earthy tones.

I'm thinking now I have seen these done, I may not have to make as many granny squares if I crochet a boarder around these blocks. What do you think?

Thursday

The Little Greenhouse

It's been a while since I posted any pics of my RealPukis, and I cannot even remember if I told you about their house. But here are a couple of quick snapshots of the interior.

Mossy and Misty planning what to have for dinner.
They are not perfect shots by any means, but the little IKEA greenhouse is doing well, and the littlies love it to bits.

Misty and Hollow discussing the taste of coffee.
I lined the back glass wall with a piece of wallpaper that I had left from papering our entrance hall. It was easy to do, I just cut it to the size & shape of the glass insert and slid it in. I used pale blue scrapbooking paper for the side walls and blue and a white stripe that almost looked like boards, for the floor. I think it turned out pretty good.

The furniture & accessories are all from Sylvanian Families.

HOPPY EASTER EVERYONE!

Tuesday

Sisters

The girls received new shoes today, but Maisie was a little unsure about them. She had become quite attached to her lilac ones, even though they didn't match her new knitted dress.

Daisy is reassuring her that she can always change back to the lilac shoes, next time mummy changes her clothes. I wish I'd had a sister like that instead of a big brother. :)

Monday

The Dilema

What's a girl to do when she has this much 8ply wool in her stash? And this is just half of it! I have another box just like this stowed in my doll room.

Well with winter slowly creeping in, I thought this might keep me occupied in the evenings while I snuggle up in my comfy chair and watch my favourite TV programmes.

I figured I need to do four hundred and thirty two of them to complete a Granny Square throw rug. Wish me luck, I'm going to need it, along with a lot of patience (not my strongest attribute) to get this project finished.

Tuesday

Tagged Again

I was tagged once again with a slightly different Liebster Award by Farrah Lily of Cosy Comforts & Dolls  (thank you for the tag!)

I would think most of my readers have probably heard of the Liebster Award before, but for those who haven't, it’s a fun award to give to blogs you enjoy, that have fewer than 1,000 followers. If you’re chosen for an award, and if you choose to accept the award, there are a few rules:

1. You have to link the person that gave you the award
2. Answer the questions they’ve chosen for you
3. Pass the award along to more bloggers who have less than 1,000 readers/followers
4. Ask them 11 questions
5. Let them know you’ve given them the award

1. Who is your favourite cartoon character?
I've never really been into cartoons enough to have a favourite, but Sylvester would come close.

2. What’s your favourite flower (or plant if you’re not a flower person)? I have several favourites. Lilacs, Sweet Pea and Lily of the Valley because they remind me of my childhood, my Gran grew them in her garden. For fragrance in my garden; the Double Delight rose, it has the most beautiful perfume. For a cut flower; Gerberas, they are so cheery and welcoming.

3. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
I'm quite adventurous when it comes to food and enjoy trying different cuisines, but I can't say I have ever eaten anything weird.

4. What was the last movie you saw (at home or in a theatre)?
Friday evening I watched The Butler, it had a great cast, but I was a little disappointed that Alan Rickman didn't have a longer playing role, he only appeared towards the end of the film.

5. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?
I could visit any country, but I'd prefer to see more of Australia. This is a big country and there is heaps to see and enjoy here. However, if I had to travel overseas, I'd probably choose Japan or the UK.

6. How did you meet your best friend?
My best friend is my hubby and met him at a wine tasting. My best girlfriend, I met at work and we have been friends longer than I care to mention. :)

7. What is your dream job?
Hey I'm retired, what more could I ask for? I've had all the dream jobs I could wish for and thoroughly enjoyed them all.

8. If you could make a custom doll based on any character or real person, who would you make?
I have absolutely no idea at this point in time.

9. What’s your favourite season? Definitely summer, I hate the cold!

10. If you could talk to/understand any one species of animal, what would you choose?
My dog Coco, I talk to him all the time and when he looks up at me, I know he's trying to tell me something, I can see it in his eyes. Most of the time I can read his body language, but there are times when it would be wonderful if he could speak.

11. If you could instantly learn any language, what would you choose?
French, it's the only subject I failed at school!!

I am not going to tag individual blogs this time, I'll leave it up to my readers to decide if they want to do it again, the questions are different this time. :)

Keeping with the same as I was given, here they are ~

1. Who is your favourite cartoon character?
2. What’s your favourite flower (or plant if you’re not a flower person)?
3. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve ever eaten?
4. What was the last movie you saw (at home or in a theatre)?
5. If you could visit any country in the world, where would you go?
6. How did you meet your best friend?
7. What is your dream job?
8. If you could make a custom doll based on any character or real person, who would you make?
9. What’s your favourite season?
10. If you could talk to/understand any one species of animal, what would you choose?
11. If you could instantly learn any language, what would you choose?

Thanks again for nominating me, Farrah, these questions made me think, but it was fun all the same!

Sunday

Well I've Done it Now

Yes, I placed my order for Iplehouse Ah-Ra last week, but without the face-up this time. I figured by the time she arrives it will be May and much cooler weather without it being too wet. Perfect I hope for having two solid weeks while hubby's away again, to concentrate on finishing lots of outstanding face-ups!

My daughter and I had a girly day last Thursday. We had planned for Tuesday, but unfortunately she was unwell, so we put it off for a couple of days. Provincial was first on the list where I purchase some tea-towels for her, then Ikea and finished the day with a lovely dinner, a glass of wine and a real long chat. It was lovely to have the day to ourselves, doing the things we enjoy and generally just hanging out with each other.
She bought quite a few bits and pieces, but surprisingly I didn't buy much, just these milk can vases, which is a BIG change for me, as it's very rare I exit Ikea without several things in my trolley. :)

So not many pics to show you, sorry guys. I'll be back with some pretties and maybe a few dollies later in the week. Hope you are all enjoying yourselves . . . sending you these hugs to tide you over.

Sharing a Secret

Hello! Let me introduce myself . . . I am Alf, short for Alfreda, and I am a polar bear.

But not just any polar bear . . . a pink and white polar bear. I have huge trupunto feet and a wobble head. But that is so I can stand by myself and say "Yea" or "Nay" without speaking.

I am made from mohair, have ultra suede pads and German glass boot button eyes. My body is firmly stuffed with polyfill and glass beads. Several beautiful shades of pink embroidery forms my nose and I wear a hand made felt pixie hat. I stand nine inches (23cm) tall and keep secrets really well.

This is my little friend, her name is Liandra. She just arrived recently and hasn't been exposed to the world, she's kinda shy and wants me to tell you something.

I am for sale, yes me, Alfreda the magical polar bear! Just a mere US$50 plus postage would have me on the next flight to your house.

P.S. My mummy made me and I carry her label on my butt!

Monday

Before and After

Quite some time back, I ordered two dolls using the Iplehouse Doll Choice, although I like the dolls I received, they were not exactly what I requested. I was wondering if anyone else has had the same experience with the Doll Choice and if you had, would you bother doing it again?

Serca Normal Skin

Peach Special Real Skin Makeup B

I ordered Serca SRS with the Peach Makeup B and this was the result.

Notice the black line where there was none? Fortunately it's not too dark, and I like the rest of the face-up, otherwise I would have sent it back!! I think you all know my feelings about black lines on the mouths of dolls.

Naias Normal Skin Elemental Guardian

I ordered Naias with the face-up as above and made special mention of wanting the teeth to show. This was what I received.

Notice the bottom lip is fuller, also slightly different colour and there are no teeth at all showing. The eyes are quite lovely, but the lips were a bit of a disappointment, even though I preferred the peach colour to pink. Perhaps she will receive a new face up down the track, when I get fed up with the way she looks now.

I think in future, if I don't want a default face-up, I will probably order the doll blank for $230, that's a saving of $105 and almost half way towards an additional doll. I can see why doing it myself is becoming more attractive to me day by day.

Thursday

Made these to fit SD dolls and used my Volks SD13 as a fitting model.
